“Unfortunately, we didn’t realize the printed menus were outdated and were initially drawn to dishes (like the branzino and scallops) that were no longer available - something that could have been more clearly communicated”

“A truly unforgettable date night experience.”
A truly unforgettable date night experience. They are known for their french fries (understandable - literally the best I've ever had) but don't miss the rest of the menu! We were blown away by the creativity of the flavors like the spicy oysters, but the Wagyu steak and scallops were on another level. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth, and the scallops were HUGE with a perfect sear. The texture of the radiator pasta.. Drooling* don't get me started on the bread with carrot butter. Spicy margarita 10/10, and the service was professional, clearly passionate/knowledgeable about the menu. Johns is an absolute gem—If you’re looking for a spot that nails both flavor and experience, this is it.

“We had a great time here.”
We had a great time here. We were actually on our way to a different restaurant when we spotted this place and decided to give it a try. You order your food up front before sitting down, which was a new experience for me, but I didn’t mind it. The food was wonderful, fresh and flavorful, and though there were a lot of repeating elements across the dishes- it felt right. One thing to note: they add a 20% service charge, which I’m generally not a fan of.

This place might as well have a Michelin star. The tasting menu was fanatic, and the wine pairing really pulled out some unique wines that were amazing with their dish. I left very impressed.

What I thought would be a charming little wine spot with a few food options turned out to be a standout dining experience. Every dish was not only beautifully presented but packed with flavor—thoughtfully prepared and consistently impressive. The service and ambiance were equally top-notch. Run, don’t walk—this place is a hidden gem. Tish was here

“We did the tasting menu and overall it was great.”
We did the tasting menu and overall it was great. The quality was comparable to other tasting menus in the same range (Galit, Monteverde, Parachute (RIP)). The only knock on the one we had was chicken breast was the main protein, which while it was prepared about perfectly, it's also just chicken breast. Luckily the morels and sauce were an outstanding compliment. The scallop and lobster were outstanding, with the serrano in the aioli pairing very well with the lobster. The wine selection was also excellent and fantastic. 100% would go again and try out the non-tasting menu.

We went for their New Years Eve Pre Fixe menu and it was spectacular. We started off oysters, followed by braised leeks, scallops, ribeye, and finished off with ginger cake. Everything was delicious!

What this place does to vegetables is insane??? I was blown away by the peppers, cucumbers, and other veggies and they weren’t even the main dish! The steak tar tar had a spice level and flavor i have never seen before - my fiancé wasn’t as impressed as he is more meat person and admittedly the pork shoulder was slightly flat compared to the side dishes

“Their beef fat fries are some of the best in town.”
Their beef fat fries are some of the best in town. The cavatelli pasta was too salty so when I went back I asked them to adjust the recipe a bit and it was better. Their dinner menu is pretty expensive and could use a burger option or something like that for when you’re just eating solo and more casually.

“I can’t recommend this place enough.”
I can’t recommend this place enough. If I lived here, I’d probably be at this restaurant weekly. The food is creative, incredibly delicious and changes constantly, so the more you go the more you get to try. All of the staff are passionate and eager to help you have the best experience possible. John’s is the type of place where you feel right at home, but also is a real treat every time you go. I will come back every time I visit Chicago!

There is nothing I love and appreciate more than when people put their whole heart and soul into a restaurant, and the people at Johns Food & Wine are doing that and more. From the online content I've been seeing about @johnsfoodandwine I knew it was my kinda place, but I certainly wasn't prepared for the warmest welcome Carlos gave us when we popped in for lunch yesterday. He spent time with us explaining the concept (no reservations, you arrive and place your order and get seated at your table with a QR code for additional orders - it works), suggesting drinks and introducing us to the amazing spirits he stocks. Without exaggeration the drinks were perfection (I had the skinny carlos margarita and hubs had the put a Thai on it, and we finished with a shot). The food was divine, Carlos wasn't kidding when he said the fish sandwich is the best in the city. I think the same can be said about the corned beef sandwich I had and the beef tallow fries were chef's kiss. Speaking of which, thank you chef Adam for chatting with us, it was the cherry on top of a prefect meal. We can't wait to come back for dinner.

A few of my buddies and I had lunch here and were blown away! The team at John’s has built something great. We had a sampling of all their lunch options and loved every bite. The bar tender made excellent cocktails and the entire staff couldn’t have been better. I can’t wait for my next trip back to Chicago so I can visit again!
