Hopleaf — among the best pub grub in Andersonville. Loud in the best way, with real pulse to the room. Worth ordering a drink, because the bar holds its own. "Brisket was rich and the sauerkraut was great with it" — Elizabeth Hadden

“Great Brewpub experience on the North Side.”
Great Brewpub experience on the North Side. Massive selection of Belgian style beer including some unique glassware. I ordered the burger, as usual. Large, quality beef patties, smashed and crispy. A bit sloppy and a lot of food to finish but delicious all around. Significant amount of cheese, so be prepared for a meltdown. Fries and sauce were crispy and full of garlic. I would give the burger an 8.8 out of 10

“I had the best french fries of Chicago at Hop Leaf.”
I had the best french fries of Chicago at Hop Leaf. I want to emphasize they were crispy and crunch just how usually people like it. The ambience and the atmosphere was perfect for a fun night out with friends to sit and enjoy drinks and food. The space is beautiful with lovely decor, very hip American vibes, excellent service, really good staff, we loved it.

“What a great spot.”
What a great spot! They have an excellent beer selection, and the barleywine was absolutely amazing. We also ordered the mussels and fries, and the portion was so generous that we didn't need to order a full dinner. One pound was more than enough to fill us up. We were really impressed and will definitely be back!

Everything on the menu is worth trying, but there is a reason they're known for their Belgian mussels and fries. Servers know how to pair drinks with the food, so please ask about it! Holly was our server and she is an absolute gem. Try the desserts! They'll really impress you.

“Anywhere I can find craft beer and poutine, I am happy.”
Anywhere I can find craft beer and poutine, I am happy. If you love craft beer, there's an incredibly extensive menu for cans and bottles that include trappist breweries and imports. I was really pleased to see Minnesota beer on the menu. My favorite though was the PB&J sour by XUL. Parking somewhat difficult depending on time of day but there's some free street parking if you're willing to walk.

Decided to get lunch here while exploring Andersonville and were very happy that we did. We just got back from Europe a couple months ago and this place has a very authentic European vibe. It felt like we were back in the UK! They have a ton of drink options and the food was fantastic - the portions are large and their fries are excellent (served with mayo just like in the Netherlands!) You seat yourself and order from the bar which I prefer anyway.

“Excellent place to stop for a few beers.”
Excellent place to stop for a few beers. Decent selection of Belgian style beer and a great variety of crafts on draft. I had the burger and fries to eat. The burger was as described on the menu but came out scalding hot and was very messy (not really complaints just describing my experience). The bartender was friendly and was considerate enough to offer water without me having to ask. Glad I finally made it here

Hopleaf has been a favorite haunt of ours since the 90s when it was one room with jukebox that played 45s and you had to squint at the amazing selection of beers scrawled on a chalkboard above the bar through a haze of cigarette smoke. It's changed a lot, but for the better, and is still outstanding. The food is as impressive as the beer selection. Everyone raves about the mussels and pomme fritte and they aren't wrong. I've had amazing soup and sandwiches on prior visits, but today for a change of pace, I tried the wedge salad with house cured bacon. It was superb and paired surprisingly well with the Alesmith ESB. We love the patio and thanks to unseasonably warm weather, it was open and nearly full. The staff are always great--very attentive and friendly. The service is fast, with no pressure, so you can be leisurely and not get the stinkeye. Oh yeah...and no one under 21, gotta love that.

Absolutely charmed -- amazing beer list with an appropriately vast Belgian selection, but also a seemingly endless choice of others too, especially from Chicago. Moules Frites were so enjoyable, and even the mayo was 💯 authentic. Service was friendly and prompt, in a classic pub set-up. Can't wait to come back.
