Jerk Yard Stony Island
Jerk Yard Stony Island draws regulars for boldly seasoned jerk chicken dinners with rice and peas, cabbage, plantains, and especially its flavorful mac and cheese; the loaded turkey leg is another standout, though it can be tough. Friendly, energetic service makes pickup easy and the spot welcoming, but allow extra time for made-to-order meals and watch for complaints of overly salty seafood, sides, or occasionally dry chicken.
What 29 diners keep saying
verbatim, from Google
“I ordered the 1/2 jerk chicken dinner which came with rice +peas and cabbage. The food was delicious, fresh, cooked just right and seasoned to perfection.”

“The order took a long time but I would take that as its made to order. However, the food was extremely salty. Less is more especially when you are making seafood, it doesn’t take a lot of seasoning. The other food was salty as well. I can tell someone took their time to prepare it, it was presented very nicely, but the seasoning was way too much.”

“I saw a review of this restaurant on social media, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered online and picked it up. My order consisted of six jerk chicken wings and a half dark jerk chicken dinner with the rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage. They were not very busy, and my order was, in fact, ready. The young lady who waited on me was very nice and personable. I was able to grab my order and go. Unfortunately, when I arrived at home, the story took a turn. The jerk Chicken was very well seasoned and flavorful; it had a well-rounded smoky flavor that you want in jerk chicken. However, the rice and peas were very oversalted and inedible. It tasted like someone had spilled salt into the rice. The cabbage was also too salty to eat. The chicken wings did not appear to be fresh; they were very dry. There were three plantains included with the dinner: two were perfect, and the third was not fully cooked. It just seems there were too many inconsistencies in how the food was cooked. They had to know that the cabbage, the rice, and the peas were salty. I don't understand why they would serve that to customers. I cannot recommend this restaurant ànd would not go back.”

“I’ve ate at the Jerk Yard hyde park numerous times and never had an issue… I tried the stony location today and the food was very dry and covered in parsley and the bell pepper still had the barcode on it like be for real!!! did yall even clean the pepper before cooking it!!! im disgusted”

“I should’ve read the reviews before I tried the spot and paid $40 for a turkey leg that was spoiled already when I got it. Guess that’s why they put it on Facebook trying to get rid of spoiled turkey legs.”
“Ms Kim at the counter was so nice helpful. The whole staff had good energy and the food was fye. Definitely coming back”
“Definitely the best jerk spot in Chicago! Food was amazing and fresh.”
“Ordered the loaded turkey leg & it wasn’t nowhere near tender enough. Had to really tear at it. They need to be grilled longer for more tenderness. Pasta was good. Mac & cheese is delicious!”
“Very nice stylish spot. Nice service. But.....the Food....Ummm...Yeah Not the Best. I ordered 4 Lunch specials and 2 Carmel Cakes. The Curry Chicken is Very Good. The Jerk Wings are O.K. at best. The Jerk Catfish is a little better.... Just okay. The Brown Stew Chicken I would pass on. The problem is the Seasoning. It's like the only seasoning was used was Salt. Or there's No salt at all...It's inconsistent. Too much Gravy on the Rice and Peas. And it was too watery. Taste like the Packet of Gravy you get a Save -A-Lot The Canned Potatoes and Carrots in the Brown Stewed Chicken pushed me over the edge! Lacks Jamaican flavor. BUT THE CAKE IS FYRE!!!!! I don't think this spot will stop me from going to my regular Jerk restaurant.”
