“Knowledge and passion are used here to make authentic food at an affordable rate. The restaurant is clean, the staff friendly, the environment enjoyable. Definitely a place to eat at least twice.”

“Everything was wonderful. We drove over an hour to come out and give it a try. Did not disappoint in the least. It was authentic and felt like we were eating back on the island. I’m a brown stew chicken snob, I love uncle Chef’s cooking back home in Jamaica and never like others but the plate I had tonight, on point for sure! Will be going back again very soon and can’t wait to try more things from the menu. Also, ate the coconut drop on the way home, Ahhhhhhh yes!”

“Food was hot fresh and delicious will recommend this place for anyone traveling from out of state it's worth the trip #OhioTraveler”

“What a find! When I tell you the chicken was so lip-smacking good I almost ate my fingers off. Co-owner Mike was gracious enough to give me a sampler, a lil tour of their family's cookbook and I'm ready for adoption. Mike and his sister recently opened this location after taking over for their father where he cooked for 16 years. They cook food the right way with family recipes; you can taste it. I came for lunch midweek but they also serve breakfast on Saturdays. Go feel the vibes for yourself.”

“This is honestly one of the nicest establishments right now to dine in Skokie. And I have yet to be disappointed by the local restaurants in Skokie. I got the oxtail and beans, my friend got the curry chicken. We also tried the beef patty and the caramel cake. Everything was delicious, and I mean everything. I’m a harsh critic over my food and I cannot say at all in any conceivable notion, a single thing id want different about my dining experience here. Thank you to the lovely staff :)”

“Restaurant is very clean and inviting. Staff was friendly. Food was fresh & delicious 😋. I will definitely be back”

“The level of flavor, juiciness and love that was put in every dish speaks for itself! What a great dine-in experience and the best part about it was we did not have to go downtown to get quality food and service. I’m looking forward to my next visit.”

“I recently had the pleasure of eating some Jamaican food in Skokie, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. As a Jamaican, I have high standards for authentic Jamaican food, and De-Jred exceeded my expectations. I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas, accompanied by a side of cabbage that the accommodating staff prepared on the spot for me. The oxtails were tender and juicy, and the rice and peas were bursting with flavor, instantly transporting me back home. The fried plantains were perfectly ripe and delightfully sweet, just the way I like them. The service was outstanding; the staff was attentive and friendly, making me feel truly welcomed. The chef even took the time to check on me during my meal, which added a personal touch to the dining experience. This level of hospitality is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. The warm and welcoming atmosphere at De-Jred made my visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking genuine Jamaican cuisine in the Skokie area. I look forward to my next visit for another comforting taste of home.”

“I was on the Northside of Chicago at an event. When I left, I searched for a Jamaican restaurant, and De-Jred was the first in the search. When I arrived, the hosted greeted me and was very pleasant. You can see into the kitchen, and the two women were back there doing some amazing things with the food. (And there was a handsome man there as well cooking). The hostess recommended the oxtails, so that's what I ordered. I ordered to go and had to wait til I got home to eat. I WASN'T disappointed. The oxtails were tender, peas and rice were flavourful, and i enjoyed the plantains. I live about an hour away from this establishment... however, I WILL BE BACK. Thank you for the great customer service.”

“I’m in Skokie, Illinois trying Jamaican food at a place that’s been a family business for over 15 years. I went with my brother and his family to celebrate my nieces 8th birthday, and we had a blast. I tried so many different dishes starting with the beef patty. Juicy succulent meat, and in contrast the salt fish fritters were crispy and salty. The mains though did not disappoint. We did family style to share and up first was the oxtail and butterbeans. The fat that’s on the oxtail is hand picked off to ensure the oxtail meat absorbs the juices and really is the most flavorful it can be. The Curry chicken was warm and savory and same with the curry goat but the goat had a gamier taste but worked so well with the spices. The roasted beef was tender and I could’ve finished it all but had to share. Never can go wrong with some sweet plantains but the most impressive thing I ate that dinner was the Escovitch Fish. It’s a whole Red Snapper soaked in a vinegar mixture with pan fried onions and peppers. Such a light and delicate fish yet filling and easy on the stomach. We absolutely loved our family outing at Carib’n Bites, go show them some love for their authentic and delicious cooking.”
“I went with my 2 teenagers on a Friday night. There was plenty of seating. A gentleman, whom I did not get his name, came to our table to tell us what he had available. He was extremely patient and helpful in explaining and offering a sample for my daughter who tends to be very picky. We each ended up ordering a different chicken dish. We had jerk, curry, and brown stew chicken orders with white rice, rice & peas, cabbage, and plantains. Despite their downplaying of the plantains, we really enjoyed them! They are not too sweet but still had a nice texture to them. As for the chicken dishes, we loved all of it! I highly recommend giving this place a chance. They were so kind and accommodating. We'll definitely come back!”
