“The service was friendly, the atmosphere is laid back and inviting with plenty of seating if you want to eat there, sit with a drink or do some computer work”
I have come here quite a lot especially over the summer. I love the empanadas.
On Tuesday, August 19, between 5-6 pm, I swung by Mulata to pick up dinner I ordered online.

“Chicken empanadas were stuffed and baked.”
Chicken empanadas were stuffed and baked. Great flavor, reminiscent of the kinds I would eat in cafes back in Miami. The espresso is wonderful!

“I stopped in just to get a few empanadas to take home.”
I stopped in just to get a few empanadas to take home. I ordered two vegetarian, one chicken and one four cheese. The service was friendly, the atmosphere is laid back and inviting with plenty of seating if you want to eat there, sit with a drink or do some computer work. I didn't try a drink but the empanadas I ordered were tasty. The empanada was full of filling and the pastry was soft and had a nice flavor. They are large and the price is fair. I recommend giving this place a try and I definitely plan to go back.

“Great food, coffee, service, & atmosphere.”
Great food, coffee, service, & atmosphere. We each had a breakfast empanada (ham & cheese) and shared a guava cream cheese one. Both were delicious, along with the coffee—luna miel & a regular latte. Definitely recommended!

Ordered the prestigio cake for my Brazilian girlfriend’s birthday who always talks about missing Brazilian cakes. She absolutely *loved* it! It reminded her of home and the cake texture and moisture was perfect. The owner was also very nice and informative when I called to order. We’re definitely going to visit in person soon

We were pleasantly surprised to find this chill spot with amazing food. Everything was delicious. We had empanadas, a soup and the Mulata Bella sandwich. A cup of soup is Big! And the empanadas are filling. The price was reasonable and I would definitely go again.

“Mulata is an absolute gem in the Chicago area and an Oak Park treasure.”
Mulata is an absolute gem in the Chicago area and an Oak Park treasure! I can't help but give them 5 stars because they truly deserve it. The chicken empanadas here are simply incredible – so moist and bursting with flavor. As a Brazilian expat, the taste instantly takes me back to the flavors of my homeland. But it doesn't stop at empanadas. The Bobo, PF, and Feijoada are all delicious, and I can honestly say that I've never had a meal here that wasn't amazing. The food is a delightful journey through Brazilian cuisine, and it's evident that the chefs put heart and soul into each dish. And let's not forget the treats! They are to die for! Every visit is a delightful experience for the taste buds and Mulata is a must-visit for anyone seeking a genuine taste of Brazil right here in Chicago. Thank you, Cristiane for bringing a slice of our homeland to the Windy City. I can't recommend this place enough. Obrigado! Picture of when I catered from them for a birthday party, which was a major success.

“This is a charming, small locale on a bustling street corner.”
This is a charming, small locale on a bustling street corner. Mulata means: a beautiful, unique, and exotic blend of people, cultures, nations, ethnicities and languages. The Brazilian Kitchen menu offers vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, pastries, smoothies, hot and cold coffee, lemonade. I picked-up a take-out order from here once and decided to return for a dine-in experience because the place place was so charming. I enjoyed sitting on the high top table next to the windows so I could look out at the people walking by and others sitting on the park benches across the street. They have in-door and out-door seating, although the outdoor seating is uncovered, so it's probably not available during the cold chicago seasons. In the pictures I shared, you'll see I ordered the Meatloaf sandwich. It was a regular burger, nothing fancy, but still good. On another occasion, I ordered the Mulata Bella sandwich which has eggplant, portobello, cheese, arugula - also yummy. There's free wi-fi here and low-volume music, which makes this a relaxing place to write in your journal, get some work-done on your computer, etc. There was a lunch rush at noon when I was sitting here eating. A lot of students walked in all at once, i'm assuming from a nearby school, to get lunch. They cleared out pretty quickly, and I was one of few people left sitting here, enjoying the ambiance. I do recommend!
