The Bagel Restaurant and Deli — dependable brunch & breakfast in Lakeview. A holdout in the best possible way. Jane val: "The skirt steak was smothered in grilled onions (yummy"

“Add the spicy mustard to top it all off and it reminds you classic doesn’t mean basic”
I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this place felt like a scam.
We ordered delivery of 3 items and 1 was missing entirely and another was missing most of the items it was supposed to come with.
Worst breakfast you can get in Chicago. We had bacon and eggs, ham and eggs, bagels and cream cheese.

“If you’re looking for an old school, classic Hollywood movie feeling of a diner, then look no further.”
If you’re looking for an old school, classic Hollywood movie feeling of a diner, then look no further. This is a cozy and classic spot with a huge menu with something for everyone. Their sandwiches are the classic-style deli sandwiches with tall piles of thin sliced meat and choice of bread but I recommend the softest challah bread. Add the spicy mustard to top it all off and it reminds you classic doesn’t mean basic. The bagel crisps and pickle slices to start you off are sometimes all you need. I love a crisp Diet Coke to pair with. We also tried the chicken in a pot soup, which is exactly what it sounds like. A half a chicken in a ginormous mixing bowl. It comes with multiple bowls and a personal ladle; one person could certainly tackle it all but I recommend to share. On your way out, don’t forget to purchase some bagels for home or, even better, a black and white cookie. This is one of my top favorite restaurants in the city!

“We found the cutest diner in #Chicago and it's a hidden gem.”
We found the cutest diner in #Chicago and it's a hidden gem! From the front, it looks like a small bagel shop. But go to the side and you will discover the amazing diner. A retro diner that takes the customer back in time to the 1950s; that innocent time of Americana we can only enjoy in movies nowadays. Tastefully decorated in red and black with wood trim throughout, and metal table tops; Feels as if one was dropped on a movie set; (perhaps, Back to the Future?) Challah bread slices and thin slices of toasted bagel that I couldn't stop eating. Plenty of pickle spears for the table. The chicken broth with a "kreplach" is a must-have. The delicate taste of the broth serves as a soothing enhancement to the hearty taste of the kreplach. The nova lox has a silky, rich, and flavorful taste with a hint of smoke and almost no salt taste. Generously served with thick and long slices, guaranteed to cover your choice of bread; served with tomato slices, cucumber, onion, green peppers, lettuce, and your choice of cream cheese and bread. The skirt steak was smothered in grilled onions (yummy!) and mouth-watering delicious! The Salted caramel cake is that forbidden treat, not to be underestimated. Your sweet tooth will never forgive you. The lemonade was refreshing & delicious with that balance of sweet and sour and a bit of bitterness only accomplished with fresh ingredients. Have you ever eaten at The Bagel Restaurant and Deli in Chicago? If not, you're really missing out!

“This was my second time here & it was just as amazing as the first.”
This was my second time here & it was just as amazing as the first. The Matzo ball & kreplach soup were delicious. My friend had the brisket sandwich on their challah bread which is beyond amazing!!! I had the steak sandwich with grilled onions & fries. It was incredible. Good size sandwich. It was almost $30 but very happy with the quality of what I got. Can’t wait to come back.

“My fiance and I had a great experience here during our trip.”
My fiance and I had a great experience here during our trip. The service was very attentive and friendly. The club was massive and delicious, the matzah ball soup was great, and the crepes were super flavorful. They also give pickles and crisp bagels to start the meal. The owner was there and asked if everything was good. Very cool to see the owner care about people's experiences. We recommend!

“Best Jewish Delicatessen in Chicagoland.”
Best Jewish Delicatessen in Chicagoland! Owner personalised the experience by coming to every table, very friendly guy. Always had something to eat from the moment we sat down. Waiters were very friendly and I can tell every dish was made with heart. I will be going there again as soon as I can.

“Only one thing to say, the Bagel always knocks it out of the park.”
Only one thing to say, the Bagel always knocks it out of the park. Classic deli food and truly one of the best cabbage soups in Chicago. And I always go with the Ruben with extra sauerkraut. I even picked up some pastries on the way out during my latest visit. Five stars.

“I have been coming here for years but have not been back in a while.”
I have been coming here for years but have not been back in a while. We recently went there the past couple Saturdays and had an excellent lunch. It is an old-school Delicatessen with all the great options including a tray of pickles on the table, bread and bagel chips. The food is great, the service is great and I love the atmosphere. Make sure to try their daily selection of soups, as on Saturdays, their potato soup is amazing. The only downside to our meal was they currently do not carry red horseradish for the gefilte fish, only the white, so I ordered something else. Please bring the red horseradish back. Will definitely be coming here more frequently.

“The best pastrami Reuben I've had in decades.”
The best pastrami Reuben I've had in decades! And Kreplach! A WARRIOR'S soup! My friend enjoyed the lox. Everything was delicious! The waiter was very attentive and would not let me eat when the wrong sandwich was brought out, until it had been corrected. The french fries are amazing! I need to keep coming back! Addedum: Here we are five days later! This time I had the regular Reuben, with a Black Cherry soda and of course, Kreplach! A WARRIOR'S soup! 🥪🍒😋

“I tried the Barb’s Bonanza sandwich with corned beef and chopped liver, and it was incredibly flavorful.”
I tried the Barb’s Bonanza sandwich with corned beef and chopped liver, and it was incredibly flavorful. Their potato pancake was equally fantastic. The Deli has such a charming and cozy atmosphere and is the perfect choice for visit on a cold, rainy, or snowy day.

“Pastrami sandwich and a potato pancake.”
Pastrami sandwich and a potato pancake! Love the vibe here, classic diner/deli style. The quantity of the meat filling and in general is a lot. Good place to get a quick and heavy brunch or lunch.
