“Small Cheval serves theirs on a lightly toasted buttery brioche bun that is perfectly soft, chewy, and proportional to the amount of beef”
This place used to be great but ever since they changed their fries and burger buns the quality's been on a nosedive.
The food was absolutely delicious, and I had high hopes for the overall experience.
I was watching college basketball from a lounge in the west loop that didn’t serve food, so I ordered food from this location.

“I've been wanting to stop here for a while.”
I've been wanting to stop here for a while. Finally made it. Glad I did! Very nice neat clean efficient place! Great place to have a lunch or do a little afternoon work on the laptop and grab a bite or a beer. Has a huge outside area. Can't wait to go in the summer and sit out. Here's some photos. Can't wait to get back again!

“Solid place for burgers.”
Solid place for burgers. Not too pricey. The burger wasn’t necessarily a standout for me, but the fries and garlic aioli combo was amazing. Perfectly fine for a quick solo meal or a casual meetup with friends

“End of the night the food was served slightly cold.”
End of the night the food was served slightly cold. First time here, Usually I go to the one in Wicker Park which seems more local/ low key than this location.

“I stop here every time I go to Bottom Lounge and it is consistent and doesn't disappoint.”
I stop here every time I go to Bottom Lounge and it is consistent and doesn't disappoint. The burger just hits all the notes perfectly with pickle, onion, mayo. The fries are the weakest part for me, but they are crisp and fluffy inside. I just never finish an order because I get bored of them before they're gone. The sparrows love them though.

“Third time at this location and the patio is really nice to eat & catch up with friends.”
Third time at this location and the patio is really nice to eat & catch up with friends. The only downside is the train noise but that is not within the restaurant’s control.

“I literally left Small Cheval with the biggest smile on my face.”
I literally left Small Cheval with the biggest smile on my face! There’s just something about the employees here that makes the whole experience feel so good. I came in to grab the Sticky Date Cake Concrete Mixer after trying it for the first time yesterday and I had to get it again today before it’s gone. When I mentioned that to the guy at the register, he surprised me by comping it! Such a small gesture, but it truly made my day. I’m writing this review while enjoying it right now, and honestly, every visit here has been great. The Reesie’s Peanut Butter Cup Concrete Mixer is another favorite of mine, and of course the burgers and fries never disappoint. I’m so glad I live right next door. I might need a rewards program soon though… buy 10 concrete mixers and get one free? A girl can dream.

“The food is great.”
The food is great. Burger is legendary. Only thing I didn't like was that the lobby music is on a forever loop. Poor workers have to listen to the same song. Change it up. But it didn't take away from the experience or the brand.

“Perfect spot to stop for a quick burger when you don’t want to wait in line for Au Cheval.”
Perfect spot to stop for a quick burger when you don’t want to wait in line for Au Cheval! Their burgers are as close as you will get to Au Cheval’s, and they have several other fun menu items to try as well!

“Small Cheval Cheeseburger: Chicago's Au Cheval serves up arguably one of the best burgers in the United States.”
Small Cheval Cheeseburger: Chicago's Au Cheval serves up arguably one of the best burgers in the United States. The downside is that the wait times can be a couple hours long, but I highly recommend trying it at least once. On the plus side, Au Cheval's spin-off restaurant Small Cheval offers a cheeseburger almost as good as the original with little to no wait. I believe there are nine Small Cheval locations in the Chicago area. The cheeseburger comes with two juicy beef patties (served medium), melty American cheese, crunchy pickles, onions, and creamy dijonnaise. The bun is just as vital to the beef when it comes to a great cheeseburger. Small Cheval serves theirs on a lightly toasted buttery brioche bun that is perfectly soft, chewy, and proportional to the amount of beef. For $13 you would be hard pressed to find a better burger in Chicago. Au Cheval is still the gold standard as you can add an over easy egg and thick cut maple glazed bacon, but Small Cheval is definitely no ersatz Au Cheval. Just like Au Cheval, Small Cheval's phenomenal cheeseburger is Doughboy approved doughboy_food_reviews

“Came here after St.”
Came here after St. Paddy’s day festivities, there was plenty of space, food and drinks were killer (per usual) a great place to grab a bite. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms. The staff was really great as well.

“Everything was amazing.”
Everything was amazing. We were sampling Chicago favorites for the weekend as out of staters & the server went above and beyond for us. Food & service was perfect. Would eat a burger here every time I'm in Chicago. Highly recommend the truffle & cheese dips for the fries too :)
