Dawn A.M. Eatery — honest american in Hyde Park, where the Fried Green Tomatoes is worth ordering. The noise level tells you everything you need to know. There's real intention behind the cocktail list, and wallet-friendly. I M: "The pot roast was juicy and tender and jalapeño grits were creamy and savory"

“in Hyde Park Chicago was a phenomenal treat to enjoy for the start of restaurant week”

“A great Restaurant Week pick.”
A great Restaurant Week pick! The deviled eggs were great and I appreciated the generous smoked salmon portion on top of each egg. The lamb and grits special was great - while the lamb was a bit overcooked, it still tasted great and the grits were magnificent. For dessert, we had the crunch cake, which had a nice balance between sweet, creamy, and tart. Portion sizes were so generous and I left feeling satisfied! Service was slow, but we actually liked it because it gave us ample time to chat without many interruptions. Vibes were great, it’s a beautiful space with great decor, but the seating stands out because it’s chic and super comfortable! Overall a really great experience!

For entree we had catfish and shrimp with mac and greens as well as jalapeño grits with lamb chops and ended with crunch cake with ice cream and brownie sundae. Everything was amazing and very fulfilling. Highly recommend. Beautiful decor

“We had a wonderful Sunday brunch here.”
We had a wonderful Sunday brunch here. The staff who greeted us was attentive and gave us an accurate wait time of about 30 minutes. We actually were seated a little sooner because we ate outside. The food was delicious. Our server was on point. It should be obvious that if you go somewhere during a busy time and you have no reservation then you will have to wait a bit so I don't understand some reviews complaining about wait time. They also have vegan waffles that my child who has a dairy allergy loved.

“We visited Dawn in June while in Chicago for the weekend.”
We visited Dawn in June while in Chicago for the weekend. Sitting at the bar, TeJuna gave us one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. I have never felt that way about a breakfast experience. His attention to detail, conversation, and genuine hospitality made us feel like regulars from the start. He mixed me the best cocktail of my life, even offering to remake it if I wasn’t blown away (I was!). The food matched the service the pot roast with jalapeño cheese grits was unforgettable, with the kind of unique complexity and generous portions that left me satisfied for days. Between the welcoming vibe, outstanding menu, and TeJuna’s remarkable care, Dawn A.M. is a place I’d come back to in a heartbeat.

“Dawn’s Eatery in Hyde Park is such a gem.”
Dawn’s Eatery in Hyde Park is such a gem. I sat on the patio and loved the decor it’s tucked in a sunny little corner that feels peaceful and inviting. The service was super attentive, and everything came out quickly. I ordered the Georgie Peach Pancakes so flavorful, not overly sweet, just right. I added oyster mushrooms as my protein and WOW perfectly seasoned and came with a dipping sauce I’m still thinking about. My favorite thing? The “Spell On You” mezcal cocktail with avocado foam. Smoky, smooth, and so creative. Would love to see a stronger iced coffee option (maybe a chicory blend or house special), but everything else hit the mark. 💡 Patio vibes would be next-level with live music. Definitely a place I’d return to and bring friends.

“We enjoyed our first visit so much that we're already talking about our next visit.”
We enjoyed our first visit so much that we're already talking about our next visit. The food, service, atmosphere, chef's kiss! Dawn's! The restaurant is in an iconic building. I felt transported to a relaxing time and space where I experienced and enjoyed affordable fine dining. Even the to go containers are the best I've ever seen. Compostable, environmentally friendly. Thank you Dawn!

“I went to Dawn a.m.”
I went to Dawn a.m. eatery for the first time, the food was really good. I really like that they have a wide variety of menu options. They have a lot of options to choose from on the appetizer menu, we ordered the buttermilk biscuits that come with two options of butter and the honey of the day; the buttermilk biscuits were OK. We also ordered the salmon croquettes, turkey, bacon, French toast brioche, and regular bacon. We ordered the strawberry lemonade as well as the sweet tea. Which were both good. The food was banging! I really love the decor and how the restaurant is decorated. It was very busy there so you know that the food was good. I would highly recommend this establishment for brunch since it’s served all day long.
