Fung's Chop Suey

3.4241 reviews ·Opens at 11AM

Fung’s Chop Suey is a no-frills Hyde Park staple known for prompt service, fresh, generous portions, and especially good fried chicken wings; shrimp egg foo young with shrimp fried rice can stretch across several meals. Regulars value the convenience and friendly service, but recent reviews flag inconsistent quality, burned or underfilled fried rice, tough meat, and occasional order mix-ups.

Fung’s is a local no frills Chinese restaurant. Food is made fresh with large portions. I had an egg roll, shrimp egg foo young with shrimp fried rice. Enough food to last a few days!

Your typical hood Chinese take out place. There's one chair inside for those waiting. They take a bit longer than expected to get orders out. Standard prices. Lunch special is a little over $10 and there's a small upcharge if you choose specialty rice like chicken fried rice. It also doesn't come with a drink. Altogether the food was $11 and some change. I got my standard test food which is the orange chicken lunch special. They use short grain rice that is smothered in soy sauce. The rice has some green in it, but none of the other veggies and no eggs which is what you typically find in good fried rice. It's better than a lot of other fried rice, but you definitely taste the soy & oyster sauce because they overdid it. The orange chicken is the dreaded "orange sponge." It's also not orange flavored and most likely general tso's sauce that they are trying to pass off as orange sauce (something shady places try to do.) The chicken is also by default spicy. Below average cheap chicken that the "meh" sauce tries to hide. At least there's not a cup full of sauce so it doesn't spill all over the bag and get ln the fried rice. Overall, the fried rice is ok and the orange chicken subpar. This definitely wouldn't be a regular visit from me.

I went to Fung’s Chop Suey and sometimes you have to go with your first mind. The place was dirty and dark. The food quality is terrible!! I ordered Orange chicken with steam rice. The chicken was dry, the sauce looked burnt to the point my daughter would not eat it so that was a waste of 13 dollars. So, glad I didn’t tip because I would be even more livid!! I do not recommend this place. Food is too high for the food quality not to match.

I’ve never ate here and I don’t plan on ever ever eating here. I ended up here picking up a order that someone else placed. The vibe in here is mad tight and unwelcoming. This lil Chinese lady that works here is unnecessarily disrespectful and rude. I feel like those type of negative vibes end up n the food and that’s not good at all!!

Got the beef lo mein, combo fried rice, egg rolls, and crab ragoon. I got delivery and the food arrived quickly. But..a few issues..I am used to lo mein coming with thick lo mein noodles, not angel hair pasta. Weird..and the taste idk I taste a lot of salt. Fried rice..eh..I've had worse. The egg rolls were big and pretty good..no complaints..good flavor and tons of filling. The crab ragoon, scarce filling. Im okay with less filling but I don't just want fried dough. Eh..I wouldn't get it again..BUT if I desperately wanted Chinese food I'd get it again, I just wouldn't get the lo mein. Little Wok on Michigan is still winning.
