Coup de Thai — a Lakeview thai find that regulars keep close. Polished but not pretentious. The menu goes beyond what you'd expect, and BYOB. "Pork jowl was perfectly grilled, tender, juicy and paired well with the sauce and sticky rice it was served" — Vi C

“I especially loved how much lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf they packed in”
Place is small and very loud. Tofu didnt taste great. They mix their chicken/shrimp pad thai with tofu?!
Worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time.
Edit for owner response: Thanks for reaching out. I can't seem to locate a way to DM you here.

“Came here for a date night and absolutely loved each item we ordered.”
Came here for a date night and absolutely loved each item we ordered. We got the Asian wraps with shrimp for starters and they were very fresh. For our mains we did the Koua Kling that was so flavorful and spicy as well as the sesame chicken which were perfectly crisp and balance out the spice from the Koua Kling very well. Would definitely come back to try other dishes!

“We just discovered this place and wow was the food good.”
We just discovered this place and wow was the food good. We ordered the dragon balls, fried mushrooms, crab curry, and pad thai and all of the dishes were perfectly seasoned and delicious. The pad thai might be the best in the city as far as we are concerned. The crab curry was loaded with lump crab meat. We went on a Monday night and the place was completely packed, so I do recommend making a reservation as the restaurant is not that large. Also note that they are byob, at least at this point. Based on the website, that might change at some point.

“Overall a fantastic experience at this southern Thai restaurant.”
Overall a fantastic experience at this southern Thai restaurant. We were staying nearby, had already walked by this place a few times, and were craving Thai so it seemed a natural choice. The atmosphere and decor was great - very fresh and modern. We ended up having hot teas which were all perfectly steeped/sweetened, but many tables around us brought their own drinks (BYOB). We had the Thai sausage, khao yum, and tom yum ceviche for starters and all were fantastic - we particularly enjoyed the khao yum with a really nice balance of flavors. For entrees we had koua kling (packs a kick on spice), pad Thai, and crab curry; all of which were fantastic. The portions were a nice size, everything was well-balanced and fresh, and all the dishes had a unique twist on them. Also the service was very attentive and warm. I would highly recommend this place.

“Came here twice and will be back for more.”
Came here twice and will be back for more! Brought my partner for dinner and we had such a lovely experience. They had lots of southern thai options and they definitely stood out from the others. Yaya provided excellent service and recommendations and the food was 10/10. Great spot for those that enjoy spicy Thai food. Highly recommend their tomyum ceviche and crab curry!

The food is creative and delicious. Definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. We especially liked the tom yum ceviche (never had anything like it before!), the crab curry, and the mango sticky rice. Our server Oil was terrific.

“They told us they opened a month ago with a new location in Chicago, as they started in California.”
They told us they opened a month ago with a new location in Chicago, as they started in California. My friend and I had no expectations since it was new and we just saw it one day on the street. Needless to say the food was so delicious. My favorite was the curry crab and tom yum ceviche. The server was so nice, checking up on us all the time. The decor for the restaurant was really cute and very clean. I would definitely go back for the curry and ceviche as well as try new dishes on the menu!

“New spot in town for authentic Southern Thai food.”
New spot in town for authentic Southern Thai food. We tried the crab curry and chargrilled pork jowl - cleaned up every single last bite on our plates. Curry had rich and excellently balanced flavors with generous chunks of tender crab meat. Pork jowl was perfectly grilled, tender, juicy and paired well with the sauce and sticky rice it was served with. Fresh microgreen mix atop both dishes from the local farmer’s market. Definitely coming back next time I’m in Chicago!
