Soul Shack Express
Soul Shack Express draws regulars for generous, flavorful soul-food plates—especially the addictive Soul Rolls, tender oxtails and lamb chops, creamy mac and cheese, greens, candied yams, and sweet-potato cornbread. Lively music and warm staff make it a popular casual stop, with portions often lasting two days; however, reviews mention occasional long waits, order mix-ups, loud music, and an uncomfortably hot dining room.

“Everything is good and cooked to perfection very fast once ordered👌”

“Ordered online on my way from church. The aroma was heaven pulling up. Food was ready. And the food was delicious once I made it home! 😋😋😋 Lamb chops and waffle with collard greens and Mac n cheese. The portion is enough for 2 days fr. Look at pic 2 I'm full. I ate a few greens and Mac cheese 2 lamb chops and waffle. 👍🏾👍🏾”

“I had my grandson pick up 2 dinners: salmon with greens/sweet potatoes and Meatloaf with cabbage/dressing. The Meatloaf was horrible, salty, and did not look appetizing. Everything else was delicious. No more of their Meatloaf, LOL. I really do like their food. Everyone is entitled to fumble the ball every now and then.”

“I waited three months before writing this review because I wanted to give this location another chance to improve. Unfortunately, my experience today confirmed that the customer service has not changed. Three months ago, I visited this same location and was served by the same young ladies. They had the same poor attitude then. Even so, I chose to leave them a tip because I genuinely hoped it would encourage them to see that customers appreciate good service and that treating people with kindness and respect matters. You never know who someone is or how a positive interaction can impact both the customer and the business. On Saturday, July 18, at approximately 6:58 p.m., I visited again. As soon as I walked in, I felt unwelcome. One employee greeted me, while another appeared visibly annoyed and rolled her eyes as I approached the counter. I began placing my order and asked if grilled chicken was available. The cashier confirmed that it was, so I ordered the grilled chicken meal with double greens. As she entered the order, she turned to another employee in the back. Moments later, she told me, "You know it's not grilled chicken, right?" At that point, I explained that if it wasn't grilled chicken, I no longer wanted the order. I then asked if the payment had already gone through. She replied that it had. I told her it was okay and that I would still take the meal and give it to someone else. Instead of allowing the purchase to continue, she rolled her eyes and responded, "Too late, I already canceled it." What disappointed me most wasn't the mistake—it was the attitude. Mistakes happen, but customers deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect. People work hard for their money, and when they choose to support a business, they should feel welcomed and appreciated, not as though they're an inconvenience. I sincerely hope management addresses the customer service at this location because the food may bring customers in, but respectful service is what keeps them coming back.”

“I came all the way from Hyde Park to grab some grub because I previously had them off of Uber Eats. The first time was good and fresh so why wouldn’t I go back right. Well I place the same order at 5:52pm and received the food at 6:47pm. After about 30 minutes, I asked the staff and manager why are people walking out with 2-3 orders that placed orders after me. They claimed it was because of what they ordered, however it was was an extra 15 minute wait on my baked wings. They later explained this to me after seeing me get very irritated. I would’ve appreciated them telling me before the order was placed so I could decide for myself if I wanted to wait. The staff member and manager had stank faces about their mistake. When I was able to pick the food up they forgot to tell me they didn’t have any more peach cobbler lemonade. So I had to wait for a refund, I was given cash even though I used my debit card. After receiving my order the extra wings were undercooked!!! My 2nd and last time coming here!!. I don’t care if the food is okay, it’s not worth the bad customer service or lack of knowledge on menu items. The extra 4 wing picture is below. Zoom in!! (Ticket # 9, 12, 13 )”

“This was my first time eating here. The Mac and cheese, the garlic mash and the green beans are great. But that meatloaf REALLY needs some help. It’s soft and mushy, and the taste is NOTHING like meatloaf. Honestly it doesn’t even taste like meat. I’m really disappointed. On the up side all the portions are a great size for the price. New meatloaf recipe PLEASE”
“I came for a quick lunch with my friend and they did not disappoint. I tried the lamb chops, greens, yams, mac and cheese, sweet potato cornbread and fried pound cake. Very generous helpings and very flavorful! 10/10 will definitely return.”
“Food is really good but the service was okay, they was confused on orders and nobody great you. It was really really hot inside like 120”
