Blue Door Kitchen & Garden — honest soul food in Gold Coast. The walls could tell stories. Worth ordering a drink, because the bar holds its own. "The chicken was crispy, delicious and seasoned to perfection with a perfect crunch" — -b

“The fried chicken was nice, the beef rib was perfect, and the lamb was good too”
Big disappointment compared to their other location.
First, let’s get the positive part out of the way: the food at this place is amazing, some of the best chicken and waffles I’ve had in a while.

“Very cozy restaurant in chicago.”
Very cozy restaurant in chicago. We went with a group of four people for dinner on a cold Friday night. We made a reservation but the restaurant was at 50-60% capacity. We ordered fried chicken, the beef rib, and the lamb. Everything took around 20 minutes to be delivered to our table. I would describe food as comfort food very well executed. The fried chicken was nice, the beef rib was perfect, and the lamb was good too. For dessert, we ordered the key lime pie, very good! Service was fast and attentive, what is expected of a place of this kind. Recommend!

“We enjoyed a wonderful meal in this beautiful place.”
We enjoyed a wonderful meal in this beautiful place. We sampled widely with the fried chicken, shrimp and grits, sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, and cornbread. Order the cornbread; it was amazing. Note to the restaurant--you marked us as not attending in Open Table--can you correct this?

I walked a mile in the snow to eat here and it was worth every step. Hands down the best cornbread I’ve ever had in my life. The kale and brussel salad was unbelievable, too.

“Good place to get a table if you’re not able to grab reservations at Cafe BabaReeba or others nearby.”
Good place to get a table if you’re not able to grab reservations at Cafe BabaReeba or others nearby. Food was fun, but certainly not groundbreaking. For vegetarian fare, the cauliflower steak was well seasoned. They let me know it takes longer than the other food, so I had Brussels sprouts come with the other entrees. Even still, it was a bit undercooked. I’m sure if I had wanted it more cooked they would’ve, but be advised it will take a while.

“Standout brunch spot with amazing vibes and environment.”
Standout brunch spot with amazing vibes and environment. Tucked into a cozy corner a few blocks in from the beach, this spot has a cute outdoor seating spot with eats to match the vibes. Quantity is good as are the flavors. Great for brunch and special occasions.

“Overall a great experience.”
Overall a great experience. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon around 330 pm without a reservation and we were sat immediately. We were served very quickly. The outdoor space is beautiful and very comfortable. To start we had: - the deviled eggs - the hummus & pimento cheese spread: this was delicious some of the best hummus and pimento cheese spread I’ve had and the veggies were very fresh. The pita was warm and soft. Overall a good appetizer and great size. I don’t eat meat so I can’t speak to the deviled eggs. My partner had the Chicago Cut Filet Mignon Au Pavoire, and he said it was great. It looked really good. I had the cauliflower steak, it was really yummy and I would come back and have this again. Great dish and very good size, I was unable to finish half. We had a cocktail and they were delicious too but i don’t remember the names. Definitely a need to visit spot and if you can sit outside I would. The food came out quickly and it was very tasty. Highly recommend.

Blue Door Kitchen & Garden is such a hidden gem in Chicago—perfect for smaller weddings with incredible food, a warm, intimate vibe, and the kindest staff. As a wedding photographer, I absolutely loved this space. It felt totally private to the couple—no other events, no distractions—just a beautiful, relaxed garden setting in the heart of the city. The courtyard has such a romantic, tucked-away feel, and the entire day flowed so effortlessly. The food was AMAZING - from the flavor to the presentation. If you're planning a smaller wedding, this is the place. And if you pair it with Christine Janda Design and Events and her design team? Pure magic.

This was the first place we visited on our "Girls Weekend," and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the ambiance was amazing. We sat outside, and the patio was decorated so nicely. The inside was gorgeous, too. Even the bathrooms were clean and nicely decorated.

I have eaten brunch twice here and have been very pleased - I had the chicken benedits one time and the second time the shrimp and grits. My mom and daughter had the salmon and it was delicious (best salmon I’ve ever tried).

“Glad I stumbled onto this place.”
Glad I stumbled onto this place. We were staying in Old Town area and wanted to stop in for an early lunch before heading to Michigan Ave. Glad we did. The place was very cute. It was a little windy and warm so we opted to stay indoor but the outdoor area is very well done. Beautiful. Food was really good. Get the fried chicken - I chose the sandwich and was glad I did. Everything was tasty. We ended with a key lime pie.
