Instead of chips and salsa, they serve free chicharrones with a selection of salsa, which were quite unique. The taco was loaded with delicious carnitas. Their menudo was on the plain side but full of tripe. The cactus salad offered a unique texture and refreshing taste. Their corn tortillas also have a strong corn flavor. Overall, this place lives up to its hype. You could also specify which part of the pig you want your carnitas from.

“This was the highlight of our trip to Chicago.”

This was the highlight of our trip to Chicago. Perfect Carnitas they even let us have a taste of nopales to satisfy our "antojo". Will be back soon as I can. The special plate with a taste of multiple items was perfect! Maria our server couldn't have been kinder or more patient with some first timers. Only regret is we weren't able to try the weekend items.

“Lemme tell you something!”

Lemme tell you something!! I don’t even leave reviews but imma start with, this place is a 10000 outta 10! I ordered through uber eats and paid for it to come straight to me because I am a good distance from the restaurant but it’s Sunday and you know it’s only right! Got a pound of the shoulder carnitas that came with the salsa verde and tortillas (homemade tortillas at that which wasn’t stated in description but made the meal so much better),tomato and jalapeno salsa and order of guacamole and chips. The food was delicious, meat was juicy and salsas, chips and guacamole were all fresh and flavorful! For the price paid even through uber it was definitely worth it and we are all super happy with the food I have had it from 18th street and I’m not gonna lie it was good but this location is far more superior!! Lbs that’s the end to my fat girl rave!!! Eat here immediately that is all!!

I stopped into Carnitas Uruapan after seeing it featured on Netflix. My meal, which included chicharrón appetizers with salsa, two gigantic pork carnitas tacos with all the side accompaniments; salsa, cilantro, onions, and limes. I added a side of beans but couldn’t make it past the halfway mark. The food was amazingly delicious and the staff was lightning fast, professional, and courteous. Highly recommend!

The food was excellent! Their special gives you enough food to have at least 4-5 tacos de carnitas. They 3 salsas vary in heat and flavor. Big portions at a decent price! Will definitely be back!

After seeing this restaurant featured on Netflix's "Latin America Street Food" about a year ago, I knew I had to take my parents and sister here to try when we had the chance to come through Chicago (we came from Canada haha), and now here we are! We ordered pork carnitas, carnitas especial, and ensalada de nopales with horchata and coca-cola to go with. They also gave us a small bowl of their signature, crispy chicharrón after we sat down - my parents LOVED IT. Everything was SO GOOD!! The meat wasn't dry, it was pull-apart tender and perfectly seasoned - paired with a salsa and a squeeze of lime to brighten things up before wrapping it in tortillas, it was perfection. The ensalada de nopales was also perfectly balanced between the saltiness of the brine, the slight bite of the onions, the acidity of the cactus, and the creaminess of the queso fresco. So good. This is now one of our favorite meals we've had during our stay in Chicago. Until next time!

Great place to eat! I definitely recommend this place, took my family out to here and the food was just amazing! Great staff, very welcoming , great environment, the restaurant was so beautiful inside it felt like I was in Mexico!! There are 2 locations in Chicago make sure if you want to dine in you go to the one on 55th street, the 18th street location is just take out ! This was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back ! FYI it’s street parking at both locations so good luck on the weekends!
