The Omakase Room at Sushi-San — low-key japanese in River North that runs on repeat customers. This is where you bring someone you're trying to impress. Strong pours and a bartender who takes pride in the work. "Everything was perfectly seasoned and the flavors were good" — Brysen Kawamura

“I had the wine and sake tasting and everything paired perfectly”
Respectfully, one of the weirdest dining experiences I’ve ever had.

“Wow, what an amazing experience.”
Wow, what an amazing experience. This was my first Omakase experience, and the minute you arrive, you can tell how professional the staff is, and how wonderful of a time you will have. From the food, to the selected food options, the whole dining experience was wondering. The chef was great and explained every meal and how to properly enjoy it. A bit of a sticker shock when it can to the bill, but overall, worth every penny.

“The best omakase i’ve had.”
The best omakase i’ve had. This place deserves some Michelin stars. Its located on the second floor of Sushi San! The staff will walk you upstairs Chefs were very attentive to detail. The entire dinning area is a like a stage. The chefs were very interactive. Reservations required since they have limited spots. Love the pandan coconut drink at the beginning. Very refreshing. Good services. Best quality. Highly recommended.

Absolutely unique exquisite experience. I’ve tried many omakase including in Japan but the experience at The Omakase Room was above and beyond. Each course was a masterpiece, highly recommended!

“I visited the Omakase room a few weeks ago, and I can't stop thinking about it.”
I visited the Omakase room a few weeks ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. Everything from the food, to the presentation, to the service was absolutely amazing. I'm already saving up in order to return. Hopefully I can make here at least once a year if not more. The only thing was that I wasn't sure if I was allowed to ask question or not as the room itself was very quiet and the chefs were both so in the zone. We got to take home a menu at the end as well which was really nice because then I can have a reminder of which dishes were my favorites since it was a lot of information to take in overall.

“My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at the Omakase Room.”
My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at the Omakase Room. Choosing to spend our special day here was one of the best decisions we made. Chef Shigeru and Chef Michael did a fantastic job at preparing and presenting the food. I was watching them prepare each course and you can tell how meticulous and skillful both of the chefs are. Chef Michael gave thorough explanations on each course with details on how they were prepared. The staff members were professional and attentive which were demonstrated when they were there to clear empty plates, refill waters and clean any spills immediately as needed. At the end of the meal, we were given a menu of the items we ate that night with a handwritten memo congratulating us on our anniversary. Here at the Omakase room, you will receive the high quality of food and excellent service that you pay for. We can't wait to come back with friends next time. Highly recommended!

“Truly one of the best meals of our lives.”
Truly one of the best meals of our lives. We celebrate our anniversary at a top Chicago restaurant every year … from L2O to Alinea to Smyth to Schwa. This year we chose the Omakase Room to bring us back to a Japan trip from last year. Until now, I had been hesitant to splurge on omakase in Chicago. We did one once and it just was the same stuff on the restaurant’s menu. Here, though, you have a restaurant purpose built for the show, and the dedication and creativity to make it happen. The intimacy of only ten diners, all enjoying the same thing at the same time, was very unique. The space is inviting, the staff extremely attentive and knowledgeable. And of 17 courses, we loved 16. That’s a pretty amazing hit rate. We also liked all the paired sake, and wish we knew more about Japanese whisky with such an amazing list of hundreds of bottles. We especially enjoyed the tuna tartare with osetria caviar, the bonito, Chutoro, all three sashimi fish, and of course the waygu. Chef Kaze explains it all including how to best eat it, and steps back to allow diners to enjoy each bite.

“This meal was the best meal of my life.”
This meal was the best meal of my life. Mike and the other chef were amazing. The whole staff was accommodating, knowledgeable, and professional. Everything about this experience was perfect and warrants the price tag. I cannot wait to come back, just an excellent well thought out omakase. The pictures do not do the taste justice.

“Certainly one of the best omakase experiences in Chicago.”
Certainly one of the best omakase experiences in Chicago. Exquisitely presented 18 courses, including sweet rare Japanese melon as dessert. Expert chefs, with a knowledge of " how, what, when". Awesome fresh variety of fish from different islands of Japan, Spain and other places. Expensive, but worth it for special occasion. Well, if you are not fan of nigiri/sashimi, and prefer standard rolls, it is probably not for you. No need to spend $250+ per person on something you don't particularly enjoy.

“Very generous portions.”
Very generous portions. Excellent atmosphere. Profesional, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Delicious combination. Waiting outside can be a bit overwhelming as the main restaurant is usually very busy but that’s usually only 10-15 minutes and then you’re taken to a nice and quite lounge waiting area.

“Very fun experience.”
Very fun experience. The service was extraordinary. From the call the day of, to being greeted at the front door and the service during experience. It was cool to go through the speakeasy door past the regular packed restaurant to go up to the private room for 10. It was all great. A lot of tastings don't have enough food, but we were actually full after the Omakase Room at Sushi San. I had the wine and sake tasting and everything paired perfectly. Things I would not normally drink were fantastic.

“Amazing and memorable experience.”
Amazing and memorable experience. We came for a NYE dinner and couldn’t be happier. Everything, the interior design, the food, the chefs, and the waiters were amazing. Chef was super personable and explained well how to eat each course and where the ingredients came from. We will definitely come back!
