Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company — Old Town italian that sets the standard. Polished but not pretentious. Not your typical menu, in a good way, and cash only. "The flavors were bright and fresh, the bread perfectly crusty on the outside and tender on the inside" — Victoria

“The Bartender was like being in NYC, were the host nd wait staff was as Chicago as the Hardwood nd excellent food smells as you can get”

“Ok first im about to be Picky.”
Ok first im about to be Picky. Know though this food is "ohh yes, wooo, im so full but i cant not have one more bite" That said if you wanna a reservation well make it now for 2 to 3 months from now. If you dont wanna wait in line or at the bar at least 30 minutez , without one. Its worth the wait. But waiting might not be you. I went on Sunday 10:30 AM for Pizza pot pie, for Meditrian Bread, nd Salad. Fyi if you get salad you want more than two of anything but ice berg lettuce not cut up very well , it will cost a side charge. But when one of two cuccumber falls off the salad, (cut nd mix the salad) you will be charged for a side of cuccumber. However if you mixe the salad dressing which they refill over nd over yes more please. (Two dressing ok maybe OCD with the only even prime #) I also recommend not getting the Mushrooms in you pot pie, why well you get two. Stem still in the cap, not cut up to bring the flavor to the sause. We just know cut it up or take the stem out. Whats with this 2 thing. Again go this food is so good im just like why is the stem there. The meditrain bread your a fool if you dont get some nd more then three of you get two! The Staff are well dressed, polite, well informed on the menu. The Bartender was like being in NYC, were the host nd wait staff was as Chicago as the Hardwood nd excellent food smells as you can get. I dont recommend ordering shoots without having them chilled. Jameson is a room temp wiskey, nd when its 11 out nd you need to warm up. Its my go to. But it was above room temp. That is the only thing i actually am not ok with. Maybe i need to order two for a good temp shot lol. But its a not miss if your traveling, if like me you live in Chicago nd havent been . Its an over due need to know Pizza Pie . Remember tell them badmonkeyking sent you. Enjoy, be ready for a nap. Maybe with the zoo so close get some animal time in or take a lyft. Tip your servers at 25% . Enjoy!!

“Such a fun experience.”
Such a fun experience. Nothing like this around. It is such a great presentation, the way they remove the cooking dish and it falls out on the plate. It is very delicious. The sauce is solid. Delicious tomato flavor.

“Tried Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder and had a great experience.”
Tried Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder and had a great experience. The signature pot pie was rich, hearty, and full of flavour definitely worth the hype. The salad was fresh and well-balanced, making a perfect complement to the pot pie. Overall, a unique and satisfying meal with great quality food.

“It's the warmest place with unbeatable food and a phenomenal service.”
It's the warmest place with unbeatable food and a phenomenal service. Caroline was great, friendly and knowledgeable, made our dining experience even better. Get the bread and the salad, might be better than the pot pie itself!

“We stopped in on the recommendation of a Chicago native.”
We stopped in on the recommendation of a Chicago native. This spot is a Chicago iconic staple. We waited a while to get a table which is common during dinner time. We managed to get seats at the bar while we waited. The drinks were poured well! We enjoyed the feel of the restaurant, old school hang out vibe. I highly recommend the flat bread appetizer it was awesome. Everything else we had was great except the meatballs. I wouldn’t go here Al the time but it’s definitely worth trying to experience their unique food.

GREAT meal! Some of the best pizza I’ve ever had, although more like an Italian pot pie. The salad was big enough for the whole table and was delicious. Service was also excellent!

“An incredible hole in the wall spot.”
An incredible hole in the wall spot. They have VERY limited seating but the food is one of a kind. They have a very unique menu but every option is the best thing they have. The pizza and oven grinders for entrees are great but the flatbread and salads for starters may be even better. The two dressings make the entire salad, especially how they recommend you mix them. They have an Italian ice cream that wraps the entire meal up nicely. Make sure you have time to wait, this isn’t something you can usually just pop in at get seating for. I can’t recommend them enough, this place is worth the wait!

“Lives up to it's reputation as a staple Chicago restaurant.”
Lives up to it's reputation as a staple Chicago restaurant. Absolutely massive portions which more than justify the prices Delicious and fresh ingredients for everything. Most things are made in house where possible. Staff is friendly, informative and helpful.

“This is a great restaurant.”
This is a great restaurant. My wife and I saw this on social media and figured we had to try it. From the entrance to the appetizer to the entrée everything felt comfortable, almost like I was at someone's grandma's house. We ordered the bread and the antipasto for our appetizers. They came out fairly quickly. The bread was warm and soft and seasoned with all kinds of goodness. The antipasto was more than enough for a meal for two. We picked our way through the mushrooms and salami and smoked ham and provolone cheese and meatballs until our entrée came out. It was the moment we waited for, the pizza pot pie. It was delicious. The crust was buttery, the cheese was warm and gooey, and the sauce was savory and plentiful. The next time we come back to Chicago we will definitely stop in again.

“Been here few times.”
Been here few times. Enjoyed the entire dinner. Went on weekday evening. Waited in the bar for 20 minutes and ordered bottle of cabernet wine.🍷 For dinner 🍽 had Country French salad, Mediterranean Bread, Pizza Pot Pie, and Vegetarian sandwich. Delicious as usual. Sweet and Sour Poppy Seed Dressing are out of this world. Finally Tortoni dessert is a must. 👌My favorite. Also ordered vegetarian sandwhich to go!! The wait time is worth waiting!! Highly recommended.

LOVED THIS SPOT, had an amazing dinner here with work colleagues and we enjoyed the one and only pizza pot pie deep dish which I saw on Instagram. The marinara, sausage and mushroom filling was phenomenal. Well worth the visit and the portion sizes are huge, the Italian sub can easily be shared by 3 people.

“Truly enjoyed the experience.”
Truly enjoyed the experience! Some friends decided to get together and suggested meeting at this place. We didn’t mind waiting. The restaurant is super charming. We decided to order Chicago-style pizza pot pie. It is served in a bread bowl with melted cheese, alongside. Some had the One pounder but most of us ordered the Half-Pounder. It is a unique experience. Tastes great , very cheesy and full of rich flavors. The ambient is amazing! They do accept credit cards . Looks like in the past was cash only. Totally recommend and will for sure go back when visiting Chicago.
