VATAN Progressive Indian Kitchen — among the best indian in St. Charles. Polished but not pretentious. Cocktail menu runs deeper than expected. Uzair Mansuri: "The Chicken Changezi was rich, flavorful, and packed with depth — a perfect blend of creamy, smoky, and spicy"

“Specially lamb chops, perfect balance of spice n tender”
The food was extremely disappointing and frankly unacceptable. Advertising this place as an Indian kitchen is misleading.
We had a disappointing experience with our recent order from Vatan Indian Restaurant.
Way way way overpriced. It’s “à la carte”.

“Tired of the same old “Indian food” and bland flavors? Awaken your tastebuds at VATAN.”
Tired of the same old “Indian food” and bland flavors? Awaken your tastebuds at VATAN! This progressive Indian Kitchen opened in 2025 Summer but this was my first visit - lunchtime. The ambiance is classy and elevated, Indian Bollywood beats are upbeat and not too loud. The decor feels well thought out; the dining area is clean and spacious. The chairs are comfortable but the chair backs are not suitable for draping your winter coats! Drink options are interesting, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. My Pineapple-Ginger-Passion fruit mocktail was quite refreshing and well balanced (well maybe a bit more ginger would’ve helped!) The food… flavors are Ah-Mazing!! Generous portions. Note that the dishes don’t include rice or bread - remember to order them extra as sides. With drinks and appetizers, expect to pay around $40-$50/person, but you will be sure to appreciate the experience! Cheers.

“Let me start off saying that this place looks GORGEOUS.”
Let me start off saying that this place looks GORGEOUS! Food is amazing, and as a representative from the Indian community the food was bomb! 💣 Drinks were amazing, I got the passion fruit ginger mocktail and mango lassi. Really liked the appetizers and main course was amazing. Kofta and Garlic Naan was very good, garlic naan was perfect texture and the kofta was flavorful. Amazing service and was delicious! 😋

“We had a great time at Vatan.”
We had a great time at Vatan. The interior looks like a restaurant you would visit in Chicago (very elegant and well done). The cocktails were beautiful and unique and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

We checked out this restaurant earlier this month and loved every bit of our experience! Tasty food, unique drinks, beautiful decor, calming ambiance. Our bar tender Surie and waiter Kamesh were very welcoming! Pics really don’t do justice but here’s an attempt.

“It has been a while since I went to a restaurant and left saying I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the experience.”
It has been a while since I went to a restaurant and left saying I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Food: We had the dahi puchka shot, samosas (chaat style), nalli nihari with the khamiri roti, finished with the mango lassie, and we ended up getting aromatic rice to go with our leftovers. We truly loved every dish we had! The puchka had such delicious and interesting spice and fresh herb combos with a green sauce that was fantastic. The samosas chaat style was a great amount of food for a "small plate" and also had an interesting combination of flavors and sauces! The foamy yogurt sauce (for lack of a better way to describe it) had such great tang and a slight sweetness that went so well with the spiciness of the samosas. The nalli nihari with the khamiri roti was a fantastic combination! (If you can't do spicy food, say no spice or very little spice.) Drinks: They really know what they're doing here with creating interesting, flavorful, and aromatic cocktails! We absolutely loved every cocktail we had. I recommend the Swadesh, Kashmir, and Darjeeling. I would order again and again! Atmosphere: VATAN has a beautiful atmosphere, thoughtfully designed. The decor is inviting, sophisticated, and fresh. The lighting is soothing but not so dark that you cannot read the menus! Lastly, but most importantly, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive! I can't wait to return for our next dinner!

First time, and will definitely not be our last! The staff being super helpful and knowledgeable was the beginning of our truly memorable evening! We ordered more than we needed, as we wanted to try it all, but will need to return so as to work our way down their entire menu. Words can’t begin to do the flavors justice! Will be back very soon!

We were so excited to see a local Indian restaurant in our neighborhood and were blown away by the ambiance, service and food. Our waitress Surie was very charming and provided great recommendations. The drinks were delicious and unique. We ordered some of our favorites, along with new dishes we have never had and everything was incredible. Highly recommend and we can’t wait to go back!

“This review is for people who have not had the pleasure to experience Indian food.”
This review is for people who have not had the pleasure to experience Indian food. Don't be afraid! You are missing out! VATAN is located where the old Lins Chinese restaurant was for years and years. They have done an amazing job of morphing the space into a very modern, yet warm design. First off, Maulik helped me choose my first dishes, knowing I do not like spicy food. Besides my fav traditional Chicken Tika Masala, I got the PANEER PASANDA which I think now is my favorite dish!! So many layers of flavors and creamy goodness over aromatic rice with layered Paneer (who knew I could like Paneer more than I already do) is just fantastic! (Paneer is a light and delicate cheese) love this dish and it woukd be a good one for you to try. Be adventurous! And the garlic naan is a must! See you soon!
