We visited Dhanteras in Roscoe Village yesterday for lunch to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday, and it was such a delightful experience. Our host, Kavya, was incredibly pleasant, kind, and helpful in guiding us through the menu and making thoughtful recommendations. We started with the chili paneer and gobi Manchurian, both of which were absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced in flavor. For the main course, we ordered spicy garlic naan, Dhanteras kofta, and kadai paneer with added vegetables. I can honestly say this was the best kadai paneer and kofta I’ve had anywhere in the Chicagoland area. The flavors were rich, authentic, and clearly made with care. The biryani was phenomenal as well — served in a clay pot sealed with roti, which made the experience feel extra special and traditional. To top it all off, the team surprised us with a mango tres leches cake with a candle for the birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture. The chef even came out to meet us at the end, which really added a personal touch and made the meal feel memorable. This has easily become one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Chicago. Truly authentic food, warm hospitality, and a wonderful overall experience. Highly recommend!

“Every bite was so, so good.”

Every bite was so, so good. The flavors were amazing, especially the tikka masala, biryani, and garlic naan. Everything was delicious and well-seasoned. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, and the customer service was excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

WOW, found my go-to Indian spot. The dishes are saucy and rich in flavor and spice, the team is especially compassionate, and the restaurant is VERY clean. We got the garlic naan, butter chicken, and lamb rogan josh. And make SURE you treat yourself to the mango lassi! Excited to come back and try more dishes.

Stopped here for late lunch because the place we were heading to was not open. We were surprised by the quality of the food. Ingredients were incredibly fresh and full of flavors. We ordered only vegetarian dishes and palak paneer was one of the best we had in any restaurant. The mango lassi was not too sweet and had good mango flavor. The person serving us was genuinely excited about the food they serve. The chef and owner Abu (I think) came out to say hello. Looks like a young chef from Kerala. We will definitely go back again with family and friends.

We had a large party, 13 people everyone really enjoyed the food and service. Our waitress was attentive and have good recommendations. Dhanteraz’s Biryani Lamb was sooo good, for the longest time I thought we could get this version in India where a dough cover the claypot while it cooked. We loved the chicken 65 & pakora appetizers. Bhindi/okra was very good too. For desserts highly recommend the jackfruit ice-cream, coconut tres leches & mango tres leches BYOB was a big plus. Highly recommend Dhanteraz if you want Indian food

We found Dhanteraz very last minute and wow, what a find! Great combination of delicious food, cute ambiance, and friendly service. First time trying Chicken Korma and it did not disappoint. Tikka Masala was also excellent. The naan was piping hot and wonderfully flaky. Roscoe Village is lucky to have this place!
