Taipei Cafe — clean, consistent cafe in Bridgeport. Old-school in the best sense, with zero pretense. The cooking is rooted in real tradition. "The crispy chicken breast with chili sauce is plump and juicy with a perfectly crisp breading" — Robert Wojciechowski (Brb House On Fire)

“For a group of 4, we had 1 order of popcorn chicken, Taipei adventurous hot pot, Korean kimchi hot pot, spicy beef noodle soup, and braised chicken leg bento box”

Of course, we had to get the spicy Taiwanese beef noodle soup, which was super good. The beef was pretty tender and not overcooked, which tends to be my biggest qualm with beef noodle soups. We also ordered the fantuan, which had the delightful crunchy you tiao and the savory pork floss. Nice, casual dinner in Chinatown adjacent if you’re looking for the Taiwanese classics done well!

“Eating at Taipei Cafe genuinely takes me back to Taiwan.”
Eating at Taipei Cafe genuinely takes me back to Taiwan. The flavors feel authentic and familiar, and you can really tell care is put into the food. The bento boxes are amazing, with generous portions and a great variety, and the price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get.

“We were craving for some Taiwanese food.”
We were craving for some Taiwanese food. It was easy to find from the GoogleMaps. The restaurant was clean and cozy. The staff were friendly. We ordered few classic Taiwanese dishes including oyster omelet, basil chicken and squid with thick broth. All of them were authentic Taiwanese dishes. They were delicious. The price was reasonable.

“I’ve been ordering takeout for lunch the past few weeks and everything has been delicious and filling.”
I’ve been ordering takeout for lunch the past few weeks and everything has been delicious and filling. The bento boxes are definitely a bang for your buck. About $20 for the bento and a tea! I usually am able to split the bento into two meals so it’s a great deal for me.

“Overall, so many delicious reminiscent dishes I thought I was back home.”
Overall, so many delicious reminiscent dishes I thought I was back home! DEFINITELY will come back to try other items Food: I got the boba milk tea, taiwanese sausage, beef tendon noodle soup, gua bao, Oyster omelet, taipei special mix. The gua bao was my favorite, with the perfect blend of sweet and savory with a nice chunk of pork belly. The peanut sugar is underrated. The boba, oyster omelet, and taipei special mix reminded me of home. The beef tendon noodle soup was great, but the tendons could be cut into bite sized pieces! I wouldn’t get the Taiwanese sausage again, it was dry and cold and paired with raw garlic on the side instead of a grilled sausage with a garlic glaze, which is what I anticipated. Service: Prompt, friendly, with a Chinatown vibe. Reminds me of Asia where most people are just on their phones until you need something, which I am very used to and fitting for the store. Atmosphere: Relaxing and open. Could use some taiwanese music like Eric Chou.

Stumbled upon this cafe and all of my cravings for Taiwanese foods have been satisfied... Their yummy side dishes were served in good portions at very reasonable prices. The Basil King Mushroom was tasty with a good amount of wok flavor. The purple rice roll unfortunately was a bit dry up despite the wrapper. Service was attentive and seating was comfortable! No complaints there, so all in all, we enjoyed our lunch very much!

Having been to Taiwan, I can say that everything about this place is authentic, and I would dare to say better than most places in Taiwan. The popcorn melts in your mouth and the green beans were cooked and spiced perfectly. The beef noodle soup was delicious - tender and tasty. The milk teas were great…not many places have wintermelon since it’s pretty much a Taiwan thing, and theirs was great. The boba had good texture and slightly sweet taste as well. Would highly recommend.

“Place was really good; they accommodated our group of 12; a little on the pricy side but very tasty.”
Place was really good; they accommodated our group of 12; a little on the pricy side but very tasty. Popcorn chicken, the bentos and my Taiwan fruit tea were all good! The mango toast at the end was delicious!

Good food. Enthusiastic staff. Good prices. Free parking! I always get drinks here when I’m passing by. Here in the photo I got the garlic pig ear and the beef+tendon bowl. I recommend both! The bowl is so huge that it’s enough for 2-3 meals for 1 person. There’s so much meat and there’s some pickled veggies in there. My table was clean and there was always a worker in the eating area to help if needed. I liked that the receipt had the list of tipping percentages. That helps me not have to spend time doing the math. I always tip at least 20%, no matter what. I think everyone else should too since the economy is bad. I always get random drinks here. I haven’t had a bad drink yet!

We were in Chicago specifically for the beauty store Osaka ebisu across the street and decided to lunch at Taipei Cafe. The service was friendly and urgent. No long wait time to be seated and served. The interior is fun and hip. Everything on the menu looked delicious and we could not decide. They had lots of good dishes to choose from. Our food looked amazing and tasted delicious. I’ve never had this type of cuisine before. Wished we had something like this. I highly recommend this place and the prices were fair.
