MAHARI — reliable food in Hyde Park. The atmosphere is half the draw here. The bar is worth the visit on its own. "The mushroom flatbread and seared okra was delicious, and the bread pudding was the best I’ve ever tasted" — Joseph Squier

“) As an FYI - my homie tried the okra, and that was the best okra I've ever had (and I didn't usually care for it”
Came in at 12 on a Saturday- we came for restaurant week for the $30 lunch but apparently it’s only on weekdays, though not advertised as such.
This place is absolutely gorgeous, very well decorated. Excellent customer service. The drinks were also delicious.
We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before we even got our drinks.

“I had the pleasure of dining at Mahari and it exceeded all expectations.”
I had the pleasure of dining at Mahari and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable meal. Mahari’s celebration of African diaspora cuisine is truly special — each dish was thoughtfully prepared, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. The menu creatively blends African, Caribbean, Creole, and American South influences, resulting in bold, delicious flavors that delight the palate. I had the Creole Seafood Pasta and my wife had the Suya Jollof Platter…both simply amazing! And the Bread Pudding..OMG!!! Ira Ellis, our server, was attentive and friendly, and he along with the other staff members clearly cared about out dining experience. The cocktails were inventive and perfectly paired with our meal, and the vibrant, culturally inspired ambiance made the whole evening feel like a celebration. Mahari easily lives up to its reputation — no wonder it was recently named Best Neighborhood Restaurant in the Chicago area. Whether you’re planning a date night, dinner with friends, or just looking to explore something new and flavorful, Mahari is absolutely worth a visit — a true gem in Hyde Park!

We came here about a year ago when they 1st opened and had a wonderful time. One of the dishes tasted just like my Mom’s home cooking. A year later we returned to celebrate my wife’s bday they remembered us and we had amazing food and a great experience. The owners are very proud (rightly so) of their resturant and they delivered. Food from the African Diaspora (African, Latin American and Caribbean fusion) ! Well Done!

“Food is really amazing.”
Food is really amazing. And honestly the price range on google map doesn’t really do justice of the affordability of this place. We came in for brunch and paid only around $30 pp. While the food is top notch, better than a lot of popular brunch places in New York. Loving the host too. Amazing and warm people

“Mahari may be my favorite restaurant.”
Mahari may be my favorite restaurant. The food was delicious with great portions and impeccable flavors. The staff was lovely, ambience and decor was beautiful. I wanted to order 10 of the pina colada drink - it was soooo good. And the bread budding? I’ve had dreams about it. I can’t wait to go back.

“Mahari is truly something special.”
Mahari is truly something special. From the moment I walked in, the owner was incredibly personable and welcoming, making my friends and I feel genuinely cared for. The food was amazing, full of flavor and clearly made with love, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It felt less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a family environment. You can tell this place is built on heart, passion, and community. I’ll absolutely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and an even better experience.

“I’ve been 3 times but this new Suya dish?.”
I’ve been 3 times but this new Suya dish?! Amazing. It usually comes with white rice I think. This had a nice balance with the honey on the naan and the spices on everything else. I fell in love with the Caribbean burger then also the stuffed plantains. I love the presentation they give for birthday celebrations. Good vibes and people. It feels like home and the food is great.

“The first thing I will say about Mahari is that it’s beautiful.”
The first thing I will say about Mahari is that it’s beautiful. Every detail was thought off when it came to design and presentation. I felt like I was on vacation when I stepped inside. The host and staff were so friendly, professional, patient, and attentive. The playlist was amazing as well-it sounded like Amapiano which I love. The plating of the food was lovely- I almost did not want to eat my food because it was so pretty. The atmosphere is welcoming for all occasions and groups. This is a nice place for a celebratory dinner, a friend night, a date night, a cute ans calm outdoor patio feel, or a solo working dinner- while I was there I saw all of the above and everyone looked content and happy. Definitely would love to go back.

From the drinks to the dessert, the Bartender 🍸 Christy, Cashmere the waitress, and Grant the waiter took great care of our family. We were celebrating a cousin who'd passed and the incredible service made our evening that much better. The food was well seasoned and well made, the drinks were good...try the Jorja Peach...it's a great cocktail and the Pineapple 🍍 Wings and Peach Salad with Prawns were on point! For dessert, try the Sorrel Ginger Sorbet 🍨 with the Honey Naan Bread🍯...it's so delish!

My partner and I had the opportunity to dine at this hidden gem in Hyde Park this weekend , my partner and I were celebrating our Birthday’s . The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was fantastic, perfect for a date. The atmosphere was warm and romantic, the host and waitress provided great service. They were very welcoming, and made us feel comfortable. It’s really a plus, when you can get good food, great service, and a great atmosphere. And you don’t have to travel far, if you live in Hyde Park. The Chef also came out and spoke with us to ensure everything was good, we made sure to thank him for the great food. If you visit, make sure you try the Prawns and Polenta, Stuffed plantains, Pollo N' Frijoles, the Peach Salad W Salmon, Seared Okra, and for dessert the Bread pudding and Sorbet . Everything was delicious!!! We will definitely be returning to try more on the menu.
