“I almost gave this place one star because of Jose.”

I almost gave this place one star because of Jose! Older Hispanic guy with mustache and dark hair, wore a jean jacket. I did not see the listing for the 4516 S. Ashland location and google kept leading me here. The only reason I didn't give less stars because I see that Jose seems to be a good person. Obviously must me prejudice because he was friendlier to the Hispanic customers, yet he was nothing but stern to me. That's fine papa! I've always thought this was a nice place to visit. After passing by for so many years, I finally got my chance today. This place has a very nice spiritual atmosphere. The produce are well handled and fresh. I noticed a lot of mushy and browning fruits but it's a really nice market for the most part. On the other hand Jose seemed to be uncomfortable with me being in the store. I asked him if it was an avocado because that's what the sign said. He told me it was guava. I told him I take pictures because I write reviews. Idk, maybe he thought I was asking the cost of the guava. Because he responded with a sudden "It's $6 a pound." Then looked at me as if I would just be so surprised and run away from that price. I STILL BOUGHT ONE. When it was time to check out Jose was somewhat sharp with me. As he rung up the cost, he said the price with a tone, as if he was expecting me to turn it all down. Jose told me his name but wouldn't give me his last name. That's fine. He was nice enough to bag my items for me. My total was 13.26 for two mangos and a guava. This place is worth 4 stars. But if you can handle Jose's character, then yes, it's 5 star. The other Hispanic customers got smiles and brief remarks from Jose but NOT ME! Sheesh. (Most likely won't return.) God bless you Jose!
