I especially loved how much lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf they packed in

Coup de Thai — a Lakeview thai find that regulars keep close. Polished but not pretentious. The menu goes beyond what you'd expect, and BYOB. "Pork jowl was perfectly grilled, tender, juicy and paired well with the sauce and sticky rice it was served" — Vi C

🍷BYOB — grab a bottle next door, they'll open it.

I came here with a couple of girlfriends for a nice weekend dinner. We were excited to try it and the food didn't disappoint. Everything was very flavorful and bright and we were surprised to see that the menu was not noodle heavy like most Thai food places. We shared everything so tried to order items that are not the norm when you think of Thai food. Started out with the thai iced tea, which was a bit bland. The tea could have been stronger, I just tasted a lot of milk. Appetizers were the pork jowl served with sticky rice. It was good, but the fatty part could have been caramelized a bit more, but the sauce was delicious. We also shared the crab papaya salad. The papaya strands seem to have been fried; that was unusual but tasty. The sauce on that was fiery and bright. Entrees we shared the crab fried rice, roasted squid in ink and the short rib. The crab fried rice was good, very buttery but not that much crab. The stars were the squid and the short rib (the sauce was amazing..we kept scooping it up and dabbed it on the rice). Overall, I would come back and try some of the other dishes. It was a great meal!

Had dinner at Coo Thai Cuisine tonight — happy to see the same friendly staff and the same great food under the new name. The flavors, service, and warm atmosphere are still amazing as always. Wishing the team continued success with this new chapter! 😊🍜✨

Name change - it's Coo Thai now. The staff here is amazing. They remember your favorites. Anthony Bourdain once said consistency is the key to restaurants. I'm glad to report nothing has changed(see previous reviews in Yelp). The pad thai is still as intense. I've had crab fried rice but theirs is the best. The squid with black ink is as excellent as before, but it is a little salty this time. The beef Panang curry sauce is just right and the meat is ridiculously soft. I cannot say enough about our server Oil, so thoughtful and attentive. Donot be put off the menu pricing outside. They are worth it!

This review was for Coup de Thai not the current COO Thai!! We came on Mother's day and because it was Mother's day we got complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and dessert on the house! We almost ordered the mango sticky rice but we were so full and then they brought us free dessert. I would come back just for this dessert alone. It had the blue sticky rice as the base and then on top it was almost like a frozen shaved coconut ice cream situation with some palm seeds, toasted coconut flakes, and something else. I looked up their dessert menu and it was not on there but I hope it will be in the future! Appetizers-- Crispy Soft-Shell Crab Som Yum ($21.95) 10/10!!--I would also come back just for this. The soft shell crab was amazing and this was a very unique take on traditional papaya salad. The papaya was also fried in the same amazing batter as the soft-shell crab. Next time, I would ask for it to be spicier! Tom Yum Ceviche 7/10 ($16.95)-- it was good but the tum yum flavor was very dark and concentration so it was strong. I can see this being a hit or miss for some people. Order it with caution and make sure you love tom yum first. Entrees-- Seafood Tom Yum Fried Rice ($31.95) 9/10--so good and was also a bit spicy which I loved. The portion was also huge and had a lot of calamari and giant black tiger shrimps! Weekly Special Branzino Curry ($25) 9/10--also very solid and the curry was a bit spicy! It was also already boneless which made it easy to eat. Overall, the food and service is solid and I will be coming back to try their other dishes and mango sticky rice!

Very big fan of the crab curry! I thought the flavor was on point and they didn’t skimp on the crab portions. We made a reservation, which I would definitely recommend on a Friday night (got quite busy). It was certainly on the pricier side, but the food was excellent, so I can’t complain too much. They have a lot more of the less common Thai dishes, which I would come back to try more of!

What an amazing new spot and new take on Thai food. Southern Thai is where it’s at. Their crab curry and papaya salad were my favorites. Shrimp ceviche too. They have this hibiscus tea not to be missed. I loved the service- ask for Patty! Make reso because it’s packed! @chicagopescetarian
