“Incredible food at a great price. The sandwiches are exceptional, and the green and red sauces elevate the meals to the next level. Try the plantains, they are very well done”

“Under the mainstream radar neighborhood gem <3 I came here with my family in Sept 2025 and have been meaning to leave a thoughtful review: My grandma and great uncle used to own a Mexican restaurant at this *exact* same building from the early 2000s to ~2007, called Café Victoria. I’d take trips with my parents and two sisters all the way from Wisconsin where we grew up to Chicago, paying a visit to my grandma’s restaurant for ice cream sundaes (some of my earliest life memories are this). As an adult, I recently became curious as to where my family’s restaurant used to be. I come to find that it’s where Sissy’s Sandwich is located… only a 12min walk from where I’ve been living for almost 3yrs now!!! Sissy’s is called “sissy’s” because 3 sisters from Michoacán— Yeni, Yanet, & Maricela— co-own it. There’s something cosmic and special to me about 3 Mexican sisters then (my two sisters and I) and the 3 Mexican sister business owners now. I have a habit of playfully calling my sisters my “sissy” :) NOW FOR THE FOOD: To be clear, when I came here for the first time in Sept, I didn’t come for the food. I came to go inside a building I grew up going to and hadn’t been to in 2+ decades. I came with one of my sisters Andrea, her partner, my grandma, and uncle. My grandma worked at Café Victoria and her son, my uncle, used to live in the unit right above it. Both also hadn’t been to the building in a while (18yrs). With all this to say…the food BLEW me away and I will be coming back just for the food (I don’t often repeat restaurants so this speaks extra volumes). Everything was a 10/10 flavor-wise, texturally, and for the price. I tried more than a bite out of everyone’s entree at my table. We had the al pastor sandwich, steak jibbarito, tortilla soup, fried fish sandwich, and the salad with grilled chicken. This salad, my choice order, had a dressing that tasted like a smoothie. Yes, I sipped it like one, too. Enjoy these photos of my (re)visit to Sissy’s in September and early 2000s photos of Café Victoria! Pictured throughout are my grandma, uncle, my sister, and me. Thank you to Maricela who was kind to share some of the story behind Sissy’s Sandwich with me the other week! Posting all this during Woman’s History Month only feels right… eat up!”

“Rarely I give up a 5 Stars review to a place but this restaurant deserves it. I saw here on google the good comments to decided to give it a try and for my surprise it was beyond what I was expecting. My mom ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered the beef one and both were AMAZING. I noticed also despite everything being so expensive in this city, they still have a very affordable prices which I appreciate even more. I highly recommend this Restaurant, absolutely outstanding.”

“Delicious empanadas and breakfast items. They have sandwiches too, which are probably delightful, but I've just stuck with the first few things I've gotten because they're so good. Super friendly staff, too.”

“I love sissy’s so much. I come too often! My favorite thing to get are the plantain sandwiches.”

“Wow. Got a rec from my daughter about their chicken tortilla soup. So I went over, sat down. They actually come to the table and wait on you! I ordered a cappuccino, the chicken tortilla soup and on chicken empanada. They were all amaze-balls!! Best I've had in a LONG time! Wow, the chimichurri was awesome! I'll be back every time I'm in the area!! Plus, the service was incredible by sweet, smiling people!!”

“I hate the place! Not really, I just hate that it’s so far from where I live. It was so good. Had a lemonade, steak sandwich, and took empanadas to go. Everything was super flavorful (the empanada dipping sauce was amazing!) and cheap…empanadas were less than $2! Will get back here as soon as I can.”

“The place is a good eatery , clean and tasty . I think I tried couple positions from them . Like , chicken sandwich, veggie empanadas ,omelets and crepes. Everything is tasty , just crepes are not my type , I prefer them less thick . In overall everything is really good . Never saw this place empty, good sign) My favorite drinks are strawberry/banana smoothie milk based and cafe con leche. I definitely recommend this place , tasty food and good service)”

“Such a cute place! Super clean, very friendly staff. The food was delicious! You must try the empanadas—less than $2 piping hot and crisp from the fryer. I had the steak sandwich and it tasted like fajitas on bread. So good!”

“Anything less then five 🌟 s would be an injustice this place has some bussing sandwiches. I can't believe i til this long to come here and try some of their food. I feel so bad that I'm moving far away but I will be back thats a guarantee 💯 👌🏾 😌”

“I ordered the steak sandwich with the side salad and I got the mixed berry smoothie. The smoothie was absolutely delicious. The steak sandwich was a little hard to bite through, but it was good. The dressing for the side salad was definitely different, but I absolutely enjoyed it. I’m not sure what kind of dressing it was, but it was good. The only downfall was that once I sat down at the table, there was a really weird lingering smell in the restaurant. It wasn’t super overwhelming, but you could definitely continue to smell it throughout the course of my meal”
