Thai Lagoon — thai in Wicker Park. The kind of spot that earns loyalty, not hype. Easy on the wallet, BYOB. Maggie Davidson: "The chicken was crispy and tasty and the pad woonsen was some of the best I've had"

“When it comes to takeout, the best way to showcase great customer service is through thoughtful packaging and presentation—and this place nailed it”
The food wasn’t great. We ordered chicken fried rice which was bad, we couldn’t eat it.
Whatever you do, don’t get the orange chicken. You will be disappointed.
Update July 31, 2024. We gave it one more try.

When it comes to takeout, the best way to showcase great customer service is through thoughtful packaging and presentation—and this place nailed it. The sustainable packaging was both beautiful and functional, making the food look incredibly appetizing. The fried rice was delicious, featuring huge, succulent shrimp and a unique fusion of Thai flavors. Adding the spicy sauce elevated the dish, bringing just the right amount of salt and heat. The noodles had a sweet and tangy flavor with a pleasantly crisp, al dente texture, made even better with the spicy sauce. Both the egg roll and Thai tea were great additions, complementing the meal perfectly. Overall, a fantastic takeout experience that truly impressed me.

“Seriously so good this place is slept on.”
Seriously so good this place is slept on. Best most traditional Thai place in my opinion. Khao soi noodles, chicken pad Thai, and cashew chicken, and crab rangoons all pictured. The big paid Thai/drunken noodles are also a go-to!

“The food was good.”
The food was good. This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for many years, but I never went until my lady suggested it. The atmosphere was also nice. Not realizing it was BYOB, the couple next to us insisted we have some of their beers. Unfortunately, we didn't click with our server. She was not responsive when we asked for food recommendations. Never once checked back to see how we were doing, although she checked on her other tables multiple times. The other server (not ours) was super nice and friendly with her customers. Ours was not with us. She gave my date the check folder, which I quickly took and put my credit card in. She returned with it and again gave it to my date, who was pretty upset by then and didn't want me to leave a tip. We ended up leaving one anyway. I liked the food and would return, but only with a different server. I have not given up on this place, and for good reason. Their food is delicious. The last 2 times I returned were better than the first, and last night erased my bad first impression. The service and food were on point, and we closed the place. Definitely will return and have added more pics of our night. Now, it's part of my restaurant rotation. The last few times I've been there, aside from the good food and service, our server has given us a complimentary cheesecake dessert to share. Nice touch.

“A nice portion of food, great price, everything was really well spiced and fresh.”
A nice portion of food, great price, everything was really well spiced and fresh. They were very kind and patient with my annoying ass asking them to make stuff vegan. And the art is really cool too

“Ok so I want to start by saying this place is surprising in many ways.”
Ok so I want to start by saying this place is surprising in many ways. The food prices are low for Chicago, and the quantities are huge. I think I have 3 meals out of the $10.50 entree. It was also delicious. I got the crispy cashew chicken and my date got the pad woonsen. The chicken was crispy and tasty and the pad woonsen was some of the best I've had, although a bit heavy with the sesame oil. Everything looked and tasted fresh. The artwork on the walls is bizarre in a way that I enjoyed but some may not. The music was truly horrendously terrible but I also was very entertained by that. They were playing these bizarre slow electronic covers of well known songs. Anyway, it created a surreal and otherworldly experience that I enjoyed personally and I will definitely be back.

“A true gem in Chicagoland, food is fresh and delicious.”
A true gem in Chicagoland, food is fresh and delicious. One of best massaman curries I’ve tried in the US, tastes exactly like my first one in Chiang Mai. Highly recommend this place.

“This is my 2nd time ordering from Thai Lagoon.”
This is my 2nd time ordering from Thai Lagoon. I prefer the sweetened "crisps/glaze" that coats lightly atop of the wide noodles. I really enjoy the taste. The gyoza is crisp as they seem fried. As for the Miso soup it's a perfect comfort soup if you wish to keep it simple. The tofu isn't tough and is the perfect texture. I do plan on trying other dishes in the near future. The price isn't outstanding and the amount of food given is generous.
