As a Korean, this is my go-to Korean soup spot in the Chicago area. Cash only, no huge spread of side dishes but this place keeps it simple and lets its incredible kimchi and kkakdugi do the talking. If you want an authentic Korean dining experience, I highly recommend it.

If you’re struggling to find authentic Korean in Chicago, Han Bat is a must visit! While the city may be lacking options when it comes to Korean restaurants, Han Bat proves that high quality Korean does exist here. This small restaurant immediately transports you to a Korean atmosphere with everything from its location in a random parking lot to its tables to its style feeling truly authentic. Han Bat only serves a variety of beef soups (seolleongtang) and sliced meats, but everything is executed perfectly. The broth is so comforting and healing, and there’s a good amount of tender meats and glass noodles. The kimchi and radish taste really fresh and are seasoned very nicely. Seolleongtang is always an amazingly soothing dish that will leave you satisfied and warm. Han Bat is an icon for a reason; definitely worth a visit for a taste of real Korean fare!

Walk in to a clean restaurant where the menu is posted on the wall. They serve mostly beef soups with different parts of the cow available. The house made kimchi of both cabbage and daikon are the freshest in town. We bought a quart of each to take home. They are cash only but they have a no fee atm. We were already trying to decide what to try on our next visit.

Just went for the 3rd time 🤩 The seolleongtang and kimchi are delicious! My fave is the brisket. I love all the Korean restaurants in the area, but this one has a special place in my heart ❤️ To note: limited but free parking and cash only

A no-frill & comforting mom-and-pop-style Korean restaurant that serves hearty Seolleongtang, perfect for a rainy or cold winter day. The broth is rich and soothing, and the kimchi and radish banchan complement the meal nicely. Note that this place is cash only, though there is an ATM inside the restaurant.

The theme/concept of this restaurant, serving just 1 type of food, is very popular in Korea and known to do well. Han bat has been doing this for a long time, serving just seolleongtang with kimchi. Kimchi itself is also one of the best in Chicago as well. It's so simple yet amazing. I need at least 2 bowls of rice every time I come here. Just a reminder, it is a cash only place, does have ATM inside. It's worth every penny, and it is best when you need a hangover soup. They also open at 10 am, earlier than most of restaurant, which is a huge plus too.

Hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious seolleongtang. It's all seolleongtang on the menu with your choice of various beef cuts. Comes with fresh napa kimchi, radish kimchi, green onions, salt & pepper, and corn tea. It's very affordable for Chicago. I would come back!
