Chodang Tofu House — among the best korean in Mt Prospect. Old-school in the best sense, with zero pretense. Nothing here has been watered down. Joshua Benavides: "The tofu is luxuriously silky, the broth rich and flavorful, and the bits of pork add a perfect savory bite"

I’ve been here a few times before. The food is hit or miss — some days it’s decent, other days the seasoning is just bad.

Amazing food! Very fresh and natural, waiters are very funny and kind, definitely worth the 45 minute drive. Their beef ribs and their tofu seafood soup is on top. Best asian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Hoping they locate to a bigger restaurant their potential is high.

Update: they have a new menu item, grilled intestines, which is so well seasoned and flavorful that I ate like 2 extra bowls of rice with it alone. Even if you’ve never tried intestines or are hesitant, you should 100% give it a try! The kimchi dumplings alone are worth the visit but everything on the menu is amazing! The galbi tang is a new menu item - someone told me it’s the best in Chicago and they were right. Amazing staff, great atmosphere!

I've been looking for a place that serves quality 냉면 (Naengmyeon) with 갈비 (Galbi) or 만두 (Mandu) near Chicago for a while now. I've been abroad to South Korea and was spoiled by the set meal at 육쌈냉면 (Yukssam Naengmyeon) in Seoul's Hongdae neighborhood, so I've been nostalgic for the same set meal since my studies in Korea. Now, I've finally found a place that satisfies the craving! The service was wonderful and everyone was so attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. I'll be coming back for the 콩국수 (Kongguksu)!

Chodang Tofu House is an ideal stop for comforting Korean food, especially if you're flying in or out of O'Hare—it’s just 15 minutes from the airport. Their kimchi + pork Soondubu Jjigae is an absolute must-try. The tofu is luxuriously silky, the broth rich and flavorful, and the bits of pork add a perfect savory bite. I got it regular spicy and as a Latino, I’d say it was pretty mild—I’ll definitely crank it up to a 4/5 next time. There’s a wide variety of Jjigae options, so soup lovers will have no shortage of choices. We also ordered a small portion of the Galbi short ribs, which were tender, well-marinated, and packed with sweet-savory depth. It made a perfect protein pairing to the stew and was easily shareable between two people. The banchan (side dishes) were fresh, flavorful, and rounded out the meal beautifully. All in all, this spot is perfect for warming your soul with a steaming bowl of stew and some classic Korean flavors—whether it’s your first meal in Chicago or a last comforting bite before takeoff.

“I recently visited Chodang Tofu House in Mount Prospect, and it was absolutely amazing.”
I recently visited Chodang Tofu House in Mount Prospect, and it was absolutely amazing! The food was phenomenal— I ordered the Binbinbang and the baby octopus soup, and both were bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared. The service was just as impressive, with friendly, attentive staff who made the experience even better. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm. If you’re craving authentic, delicious Korean cuisine, this spot is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back!

“Coming from NYC, food was solid and great for an after-run dinner.”
Coming from NYC, food was solid and great for an after-run dinner! Loved that they had multiple carb options to go with the tofu soup (white rice, black rice, nutritious rice, udon, brown rice) (rec the stir fried intestines) Also super nice staff that refilled the banchan quickly and willing to take orders close to closing

“This is the best soon tofu stew in the Chicago period.”
This is the best soon tofu stew in the Chicago period. Sure, SGD tofu is more popular but its franchise and lacks flavor. Its hit or miss at SGD but here at Chodang, it hits every time. After ownership changed, I havent had a time to try, and I was a bit skeptical thinking if the quality would be the same, but it was as good as before. I'm glad they didnt change their banchan style, especially spicy squid. Although I want to say there were a bit less ratio of squid mixed with radish, considering the cost and etc, I understand. I also tried their newest protein, intestine, and it was so good. I love intestine in any way, grilled or in a soup. Not sure if BCD would ever make it to Chicago but chodang is not too far from BCD in terms of taste in my opinion. In LA, there are so many good korean restaurants that when you make a trip down there, you tend to overlook BCD Tofu, although its really good. Chicago tough, with lack of korean restaurants in general, Chodang is a great choice. Service is on top of it, price point is not cheap but it is what it is. Galbi is decent. Make sure to crack egg as soon as possible and put it in soup, or you can mix it in hot rice. Remove rice from the pot, ask for hot water and pour into pot. You will have awesome nurungji for later, aka cruncy overcooked rice soup. Enjoy!
