MIKAMI IZAKAYA & RAMEN — among the best japanese in South Loop. Expect noise, energy, and a full house. Strong pours and a bartender who takes pride in the work. "Their ramen is hands down the best I've had in the city—rich, flavorful broth with perfectly cooked noodles" — Chih-Hao Yang

“The food was excellent, though I do wish they had more vegetarian options, there’s only one vegetarian ramen on the menu, but it was absolutely delicious”
It was -10°C outside, and I walked a long distance to this restaurant because Google clearly states it closes at 9:00 PM.
Not good. Ramen was pretty amateur- felt all wrong with portion of noodles to broth being too great. Bad/funky broth.
Food: we ordered the miso ramen and a selection of the robata yaki.

“I have been at Mikami restaurant last weekend.”
I have been at Mikami restaurant last weekend. The food is so great. Especially the calamari and the geki ramen(spicy one). Their service is super good. The interior is look aesthetic. It’s great for dating. And they have like a private space for big party. I highly recommended.

“My neighborhood spot and I wish I had gone sooner.”
My neighborhood spot and I wish I had gone sooner. Such a beautiful and elegant space the bar area is great too. I loved their tempura platter, the gin blossom was an amazing cocktail. Get any of their ramen but do also get their Tofu Don and Salmon. Loved the Matcha Tiramisu. Service with a smile. @chicagopescetarian

Wonderful service! The beef Don was very nice! The vegetable ramen was OK but the chicken ramen did not taste good.

“I’ve tried many Japanese dishes before, but this time I was truly impressed with the food here.”
I’ve tried many Japanese dishes before, but this time I was truly impressed with the food here. Normally, fried dishes tend to make the meat inside dry, but the Chicken Karaage and Katsu Plate were beyond my expectations: perfectly crispy on the outside while still tender and juicy inside. The seasoning was well-balanced and just right. The restaurant space is airy, clean, and decorated in a simple yet elegant style. Most importantly, the prices are very reasonable for the quality.

“Our first Japanese dinner outing in Chicago did not disappoint.”
Our first Japanese dinner outing in Chicago did not disappoint! The moment you walk in, the minimalistic zen interiors set a calm and welcoming vibe. The food was excellent, though I do wish they had more vegetarian options, there’s only one vegetarian ramen on the menu, but it was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Vegetarian Ramen and the Tonkotsu Ramen, both packed with flavor. For cocktails, we tried Midori by Moonlight and Mikami Old Fashioned both were outstanding. And you can’t leave without dessert the Matcha Tiramisu was the perfect sweet finish! A wonderful spot overall, and I’ll definitely be visiting again 😃

“I was impressed by the interior design as I walked into this restaurant.”
I was impressed by the interior design as I walked into this restaurant. They have a lunch special that comes with a side dish and a soup of your choice at the price of $21.95. The tonkotshu ramen was good. The vegetarian ramen comes with vegetable tempura. The batter was light and perfectly crisp. I had fries as the side dish. The fries were just okay, as they were not as flavorful. The vibe and service are great.

“UPDATE: A few more visits and we stand by our original review.”
UPDATE: A few more visits and we stand by our original review. ❤️ Wanted to add some more photos, and let people know that their Set Lunch ($21.95) is a screaming deal🔥 We both had ramen (full-sized), gyoza and miso soup. Adding additional photos - you don’t want to sleep on this place. ORIGINAL: Consistently delicious food served fresh. In addition to food pictured, we’ve tried the curry rice, and 2 ramen dishes that had flavorful broth with perfectly cooked noodles and toppings. Thanks to the staff for providing excellent food and service.

“Everything we had here was exceptional, which (unfortunately) is setting a new bar for Japanese dining.”
Everything we had here was exceptional, which (unfortunately) is setting a new bar for Japanese dining. Apps: Karaage, Takoyaki, Kale, Grilled Shishito peppers, and Gyoza are all solid. The Karaage gets a double thumbs-up, probably the best flavor and textured chicken I've ever had. Skewers: Pork Belly, Beef Rib, Bacon Wrapped Tomato we're all delicious. My friends all enjoyed the Beef Wrapped Shishito, but they didn't shine for me (not to be confused w Grilled Shishito app) Entrees: Tsukemen was excellent. Tonkatsu ramen was rich but not overly heavy. Noodles have great texture. Drinks: the Highball was good, but I think I'd have preferred a standard one (I had a Toki haibōru from the Suntory machine and it ruined me forever). Regardless, Mikami is solid all the way around. Absolutely recommend. (Sorry y'all, I should've taken more pictures but I couldn't stop eating)
