Roma's Italian Beef & Sausage — an italian spot in Irving Park. Order the Italian Beef. It has that lived-in, been-here-forever warmth. Tassie Tagarelli: "Their beef is perfectly sliced & the juice is so flavorful & a bit spicy"

“The bread seam had a lot of juice but not the cut side, so it was probably ladled on juice instead of a true dip”
Classic beef spot with a very flavorful Italian beef served on a roll that holds up with delicious fresh cut fries.
I passed by this place all the time right on Cicero, never thought a thing about it, I stopped in today and got an Italian beef dipped with extra hot peppers.
Pick up a combo meal the gentleman behind the counter ask if I wanted a cup of the beef juice.
I just had a hotdog and fries. Was delicious and affordable. They also have great specials. 11am to 1pm. Thanks.

I was sent on a mission by my hospital-bound friend to get an Italian beef and I may have found a new favorite place for this hallowed sandwich. Roma's is a dinky little shop on North Cicero Avenue, a block or two south of Montrose. They specialize in Italian beef and sausage. The sandwiches aren't large, but they are otherwise perfect, full of juicy beef and spicy veggies. This time I got the beef combo, which carries your typical stewed beef and spicy veggies, but also comes with a sweet and spicy italian sausage. Seriously, it's like adding a link of chorizo to the proceedings. They also have an option to add extra juice to the sandwich by scooping some on top or by dipping the whole sandwich in it! One soggy sandwich later, I am a very happy Chicagoan. Comes with shoestring fries that compliment the flavor of the sandwich with an oily finish rather than being drenched with salt. Highly recommend

“Everytime I'm in the city.....I have to go to Roma's.”
Everytime I'm in the city.....I have to go to Roma's! The B.E.S.T. beef in the city!!! I love Roma's Italian Beef & Sausage‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️. This time I also got the breaded steak sandwich and their new Italian beef empandadas. All delicious‼️. I forgot to order sweet peppers on my beef, so I added some from the steak sandwich. Fabulous!! Their beef is perfectly sliced & the juice is so flavorful & a bit spicy. ALL made in house!! I especially love the flavor of the juice....so many spices & not piles of salt. DELICIOUS 😋😋😋😋😋. I got some to take home, too! So I will be enjoying this delicious beef today 😉. This is a great spot & the owner Fred is a great guy. Sadly, he has a bad situation going with his MS & uses a wheelchair a times. Nevertheless....he and his wife Anna, are there every day! Please support this small business and this family! The food is amazing & they are great people ❤️

“The Italian beef sandwich was great.”
The Italian beef sandwich was great. I thought it was a bit expensive for the size, though. I would skip the Italian ice next time because it was too chunky for my liking. Definitely a great neighborhood joint for Italian beef.

“Best Italian beef in town.”
Best Italian beef in town. I've been going to Roma's for over 20 years. The new owner Freddy is a great guy and the beef stayed the same as always. Now he sells pizza too.

“All the guys behind the counter had great energy and greeted me when I came in.”
All the guys behind the counter had great energy and greeted me when I came in. Quick turn around while waiting. Some random boxes and other organization stuff that could be improved, but nothing seemly hazardous. This beef sandwich is too small, great beef, but just too small. Could have more juice for being dipped. It's not a dry texture. it just needs to be dipped. The bread seam had a lot of juice but not the cut side, so it was probably ladled on juice instead of a true dip. Well seasoned and spiced. Mostly shredded beef with some sheets in between. Really reminds me of childhood italian beef sandwiches at home. Which would have been Serrelis beef on liborio rolls, not that that is what I think this is necessarily. Parking area could also probably be cleaned up a little bit. 4.5/5 MORE BEEF and dipped more would put this in 4.75 or higher territory

“Meh used to be LOTS better.”
Meh used to be LOTS better. I got half filled bag of fries and was not told that using a credit card would cost me 4.4% Admin fee. Honestly I wish I could give this place a 3.5. Fries are No longer hand cut as you can see in my pics but are shoestring fries. Sadly It's no longer the awesome place that I remember.

Their beef is pretty good, but I don’t think it could really stand up to the iconic Al’s beef in Chicago. There’s something about a restaurant that has been here for 15 years why are they bigger? Either way, it’s an awesome hole in the wall place you could find out here to get a solid meal anytime of the day.

Pretty disappointed in my experience here, heard that their beef was outstanding so figured i had to try it but was definitely let down here, the beef sandwich tastes like it was microwaved and the overall quality of meat was not super high, but the staff were all extremely friendly!

“I read somewhere they were on the list of Best Italian Beef in Chicago.”
I read somewhere they were on the list of Best Italian Beef in Chicago. So, of course, I had to try it. What I got was a pretty dry, basic Italian Beef sandwich, not really in the “Best Of...” criteria, IMO. The fries looked like re-fried unseasoned McDonald’s fries. On top of that, their pizza in the warming case looked days old.
