Gene & Georgetti
Gene & Georgetti — neighborhood italian in River North. The decor hasn't changed, and it doesn't need to. Strong bar program alongside the food. Mariah Kamara (Naomi): "The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce was rich and flavorful, and the meatballs were cooked to perfection" [$$$]

“I decided to celebrate my 40th birthday at Gene & Georgetti and boy was it such a good decision! We arrived about ten minutes early for our reservation and we're promptly seated, we reserved the VIP table because of the occasion, our server Dan was absolutely delightful and just everyone on the floor team was great! Chef William stopped by our table because it was my birthday and I had to let him know that everything was absolutely out of this world, by far one of the best meals I've had in quite some time! We got a half dozen of oysters, the prime rib (only available fri-sun) and the Bone-in NY strip and BOTH were cooked to perfection. Sides we got the brussel with house cut bacon, the vesuvio potatoes and the spinaci gratinate, not one of those sides was bad they just kept getting better and better! All in all, my 40th birthday dinner was definitely well spent here and I'm definitely coming back for more! Thank you to each and every staff member!”

“The steak was amazing! Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We really enjoyed the old-school steakhouse atmosphere and had a great experience overall. Definitely a great place for a good steak in Chicago!”

“One of Chicago’s original Tuscan steakhouses,it is famous for its wet-aged steaks, chops, and has been around since 1941. It was one of Frank Sinatra favorite places to eat, and he had his own little corner that he sat at. The flagship River North location operates out of a historic wood-frame building constructed in 1873, just after the Great Chicago Fire. It is one of the very few surviving wood-frame structures left in the city, which we found very interesting! The steaks were amazing and the Greek chicken was delicious. The atmosphere and staff were phenomenal. Definitely recommend this place when you’re in Chicago.”

“예약없이 애매한 시간에 갔는데 기다림 없이 바로 입장했습니다. 매장안이 매우 시원하고,직원들도 친절합니다. 동행한 인원이 많아서 네가지 종류에 스테이크를 종류별로 주문했는데, 그중에 립아이 스테이크를 추천합니다.”

“This place is excellent! Food, service, atmosphere all excellent! Highly recommend!”

“Erica and her team went above and beyond for us. Thanks again.”

“Gene & Georgetti is everything a legendary Chicago steakhouse should be. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the history, character, and tradition that have made this restaurant an institution for generations. The service was polished, attentive, and genuinely hospitable, striking that perfect balance between old-school professionalism and making guests feel completely at home. The staff clearly understands what fine dining should look like and delivers it effortlessly. The steak was exceptional. Perfectly cooked, richly flavored, and prepared with the confidence that only comes from decades of doing things the right way. Every detail, from the quality of the ingredients to the execution from the kitchen, reflected the restaurant’s reputation. What truly separates Gene & Georgetti is the atmosphere. The classic dining rooms, the energy of the staff, and the sense of history create an experience that feels distinctly Chicago. This isn’t simply dinner; it’s a piece of the city’s culinary heritage. If you’re looking for a genuine steakhouse experience with outstanding food, impeccable service, and timeless charm, Gene & Georgetti remains one of Chicago’s finest dining destinations.”

“We came here for the history and steak. I made a reservation 2 days in advance, but it was on a week day. We dressed for a night out. They sat us upstairs where they had lots of photography on the walls. The waiter was funny, helpful, and polite. We ordered lots of drinks, and they bartender didn't disappoint they were delicious. The steaks were yummy, and I especially loved the broccollini.”

“Everything was incredible. From the food to the service, there was no other rating than a 10/10. Our server Hector was so attentive to our large group making it such a good experience. Chef Will came over to our table to check in, making sure we were enjoying everything. The sweetest surprise at the end was the cake for Pride Month. Not only did it make me so happy to see, it was dangerously good. The food was incredible and the service was what made the entire dining experience so good that we’re ready to make another reservation for 10 again!”

“Our fairly large group had a fantastic time at dinner this past week. Our server Hector was so kind and kept our glasses full and plates replenished. I would highly recommend the Fiorentina for larger groups so we can order more plates and try it all. Will definitely be returning!”

“Gene & Georgetti has been Chicago's oldest steakhouse since 1941, housed in the city's third oldest building, and walking in feels like stepping into a different decade entirely, white-jacketed waiters, autographed celebrity photos covering the walls, and a clubby, old-school energy that doesn't try to be anything other than exactly what it's always been. It's the kind of place where regulars have been coming for fifty years, and you can feel that history the moment you sit down. We started with the shrimp de Jonghe, a Chicago specialty that arrived as a deep plate of garlic butter, breadcrumbs, and herbs, with a generous pile of pink shrimp swimming in it, rich enough that we needed bread just to mop up everything left behind. The garbage salad came next, a Chicago institution in its own right, iceberg lettuce, celery, tomato, slivers of cheese and salami, pepperoncini, and shrimp all tossed in a tangy vinaigrette, surprisingly refreshing against the richness of everything else. The sirloin was the main event, charred properly on the outside with a juicy, pink interior, served simply on its own without much adornment, alongside thick cottage fried potato chips that stayed crispy the whole meal. We also tried the chicken vesuvio, which ended up being a real standout at the table, tender chicken with potatoes and a garlicky white wine sauce that several of us kept going back for. Service can lean a little surly if you're not a regular, but that's part of the old-school charm here, and once you're seated you're treated with genuine, no-frills hospitality that feels earned rather than performed.”
