Max and Benny's — reliable american in Northbrook. No frills and no gimmicks, just a solid honest room. They're doing something different, and it works, and fast service. "The Rueben is my favorite sandwich, the soups are all incredible—just depends on your mood" — Renee Tarantowski Baude [$$]

Support a local business If you like hot sauce, there are plenty to sample in the restaurant. Stop at the bakery after your meal for authentic bagels, pastries, cookies, and deli staples. I picked up a raspberry Hamantaschen for dessert: a triangle shaped butter cookie filled with a raspberry jam. I was with a gluten-free diner who was happy to see a gluten-free menu that was notably larger than most other restaurants. Also, the server mentioned they have a special area and special cooking tools for making food without any gluten. I tried the gluten-free chicken tenders and gluten-free matzo ball, both were tasty. This place is popular during meal times but during the mud afternoon has nice calm mood to it.

Everything about this place is old school deli. Fast service and good food. Mostly locals, generally busy but wait times are short. Excellent pastrami, corned beef and pretty much anything else you order.

Matzoh Ball soup was too salty. Pastrami sandwich was good but kind of bland and it seems to have shrunk since the last time I was hear.

We love Max & Benny's ♥️♥️ The mish mosh soup is so delish, best around. The challah French toast is sooo delicious, yum yum I love the bread they give you with your mish mosh soup. I love the scrambled eggs with that delicious sausage. Then we go to the other side and get some of the BEST desserts♥️♥️ The only thing I have to say is the cashier guy who wears the Fedora hat is so rude & crabby. Should be nicer to paying customers
