El Fogon Tapatio — one of Logan Square's strongest mexican spots. The flavors don't apologize for being bold, and BYOB. Laura Fahey: "The meat is so flavorful and the way he cooks the rice is so different - some of the best I’ve ever had"

🍷BYOB — grab a bottle next door, they'll open it.

El Fogon Tapatio was empty when we walked in. It was a little dark inside, but once we sat down and ordered, everything changed. You could hear the meat sizzling, and it started smelling really good fast. its like the kitchen came to life. The place has this hacienda look to it, with brick walls, Mexican decor everywhere and even an organ in the room. Felt a little like stepping back in time. Pretty cool honestly. I got two asada and two al pastor tacos. And yeah… these tacos were something else. The asada tacos were good but the al pastor were the clear winner. Super tender, juicy, packed with flavor. A little sweet, a little savory, tiny bit of heat. Once I added salsa and lime, it just leveled up. Messy, a little greasy, but in a good way. They also give you grilled onions and a chile toreado on the side, which made it feel like a full plate, not just tacos. And they don’t skimp on the meat either. I’d go back just for those al pastor. Easy.

Excelente lugar, excelente atención y excelente comida. 10/10✅

Best Mexican we’ve had in a long time! This was our first time here and it’s safe to say that the al pastor taco is among the best I’ve had in Chicago. The waitress shared they make both the el pastor and asada fresh daily. We ordered the al pastor and carne asada burrito, al pastor taco, chile relleno taco, and quesabirria tacos. The meat was tender and not dry at all. Also, the horchata was one of the best I’ve ever had.

This establishment changed hands and names a few years ago. Different business and food, meanwhile the distressed-look, antique interior is the same. The food and service is legit. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa with three sauces to choose from. I appreciate that the chips taste fresh and are not greasy. I usually get a burrito and the lady either gets a steak or some tacos. We usually go there at her request because she can eat Mexican food everyday if you let her and this place is part of our rotation. The grilled onions and roasted jalapeños give the meal a nice touch.

Some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. I got the lengua, al pastor, and asada tacos and they were incredibly flavorful and the tortilla was very tasty. This has become my new go-to spot for Mexican food in Chicago

I’m from a town about an hour away from Chicago. I was downtown and had a taste for tacos. El Fogón did not disappoint 10/10 recommend. First let’s talk about the price, $34 for 2 taco dinners and a small horchata is my kind of party! The beans are so good! The rice doesn’t lack flavor and either does the meat. The toasted jalapeno and onions on the side were my favorite, i can eat a few with some tortillas and salsa. You know tacos are good when lime or salsa isn’t needed.👌🏽👌🏽 Soy de un pueblo una hora de Chicago.

"Delicioso!" This hole-in-the-wall BYOB on Armitage served up a wonderful feast for four of us. Service was attentive and friendly and the food far exceeded our expectations. All those glowing reviews are spot on! Insider tip: Pick up beverages at GO Tavern & Liquors across the street.

Delicious tacos, flavorful and well seasoned. The lengua and birria and pastor tacos stood out. I love that they usually also serve tacos with grilled onions on the side. Cute decor too.
