Shokran — Irving Park food where the Moroccan Tea sets the tone. Feels like it's been there since before the neighborhood changed. Nothing here has been watered down. BYOB, cash only. "The lamb was cooked well, meat was very tender and juicy" — Nicholas P

“I've been here a few times with my bf.”
I've been here a few times with my bf. The food and staff are great. The only complaint that I have is that it's cash only. There is an atm but it there was something wrong with it.

“Shokran is the kind of restaurant you try once and want to come back again and again.”
Shokran is the kind of restaurant you try once and want to come back again and again. I ordered the lamb shank, and it was absolutely incredible - the meat melted in my mouth, and the flavors were out of this world. It was my first time trying lamb with sweet prunes, almonds, and egg, and it was a delicious meal! I also had a side of rice and some mint tea, both were great. The food and service were amazing.

“I can't speak to the foods authenticity, but in terms of flavors, 10/10.”
I can't speak to the foods authenticity, but in terms of flavors, 10/10. The chicken bastilla was an interesting mixture of savory (with the chicken filling), and sweet (with the powered sugar and cinnamon topping). The lamb atlas tagine was outstanding. We finished our meal with the mint tea, which was a nice palate cleaner. Overall great time.

“As a Moroccan living in Chicago, it's a bit disheartening that our rich culinary tradition is...”
As a Moroccan living in Chicago, it's a bit disheartening that our rich culinary tradition is represented by only two restaurants in such a large city. Nonetheless, I'm grateful for what we have. My first visit to Marrakech Restaurant set high expectations, so I anticipated great things from Shokran Restaurant. We Moroccans are quite particular about our traditional cuisine, allowing little room for error. Shokran Restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the spacious interior. The decor, with its traditional Moroccan furniture and seating, immerses you in Moroccan culture even before the food arrives. Our server's warm hospitality made me feel right at home. The experience was further enhanced by the popular Moroccan songs playing, which had me singing along as I enjoyed my meal. Now, about the food: it was not only 100% authentic in flavor and presentation but also wonderfully aromatic. What sets this place apart is the impressive speed of service. Despite Moroccan food being time-consuming to prepare, everything was fresh. I enjoyed the Chicken Bastila, Royal Couscous, Beet Salad, Zaalouk, and, of course, the must-have Moroccan tea, which was absolutely delicious. Shokran is perfect for families, couples (if you want to surprise your date), solo diners, and especially large groups. This restaurant deserves more than five stars. No flaws. Just go and enjoy!

“This was my first time trying out Morrocan cuisine.”
This was my first time trying out Morrocan cuisine. It had very good reviews. The inside was very beautiful. They had an adequate amount of seating. You can find street parking nearby. Service was good. Prices were standard for being in Chicago. Portion sizes were sufficient for two people. We ordered lamb fez and merguez. They were equally very tasty and filling. Lamb fez has a big piece of lamb in a stew with prunes, cinnamon, almonds, and honey. Hard boiled eggs are served with it. The lamb was cooked well, meat was very tender and juicy. Merguez is a dish with homemade sausage stuffed with ground lamb and beef. They’re on top of couscous and vegetables. Sausage was bursting with flavor. Lamb and beef is such a great combination.

“We went to Shokran based on my sons suggestion.”
We went to Shokran based on my sons suggestion. We ordered Harira, Chicken Casablanca, Spicy Garlic shrimp, Chicken Kebab. Chicken was seasoned very nicely. It was tender and nicely cooked. Vegetables on side did not have any seasoning. I wish they add some seasoning to that. Over all great ambience, nice food and service. One thing to be aware of - cash only. There is big sign at the entrance. Still entire family missed to read the sign when we entered and luckily we had cash

“Incredible food, budget friendly and a very well-decorated, peaceful ambience.”
Incredible food, budget friendly and a very well-decorated, peaceful ambience! If you are in Chicago and enjoy middle eastern cuisine YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE. I came here with my Syrian-American friend and her lovely Syrian mother. We ordered all our favorites — lamb couscous, lamb tagine, beef sausage, beet salad, and more — and we were so impressed with every order. The lamb here is NEXT LEVEL. The owner is a great guy too! He’s a recent PhD graduate who is just lovely to talk to. We ordered a bunch of food and on top of that he gave us an eggplant appetizer on the house! I can’t wait to be back!!

“Had an excellent dinner at Shokran.”
Had an excellent dinner at Shokran. The atmosphere was very cozy and comfortable. They have 3 dining areas in their space. The food was really good. But what made this a 5 🌟 experience was the great service we had throughout the evening. Would highly recommend a visit!

Amazing spot. The people here are so welcoming and explain their menu really well if you have any questions. Place itself has a homey feel to it and the people here make you feel like it is as well. The food is so good and the lamb tagine was incredibly succulent. Downside is that they only take cash but there is an ATM in the restaurant.
